ENGAGEMENT: Talina Lee Patterson...

The children of Talina Lee Patterson and Tommy Gordon Tedder, both of Buffalo, wish to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their parents.

The ceremony will be 4 p.m. June 1, 2013, behind Tedder’s barn with a reception to follow in the backyard of the home of Allison and Keith Blair.

Two local students graduated from McKendree University.

Linda Gribbins of Campbellsville earned an MSN degree in nursing education.

Patty McMahan of Hodgenville, earned a BBA degree magna cum laude in accounting.

Taylor, White Graduate from WKCTC

Two LaRue County residents were among more than 1,500 candidates for graduation eligible to receive one or more credentials from West Kentucky Community and Technical College this month.

Kristina Marie Taylor of Hodgenville and David White of Sonora received an associate in applied science. White graduated with distinction – having a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 to 4.0.

Chamber presents four community...

The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce recognized several community leaders May 9 at its annual dinner at First Baptist Church of Hodgenville.
Outstanding Citizen
 Donnie Propes was named the 2013 Outstanding Citizen of the Year and received a standing ovation from the packed room.

LaRue County FFA Chapter will hold an awards banquet 6 p.m. May 9 in the LaRue County High School cafeteria.  

Baccalaureate
Baccalaureate is 3 p.m. May 19.

Graduation
LaRue County High School graduation is 8 p.m. May 24 in the gym. It will be followed by Project Graduation.

Shaila Winston earns scholarship

 Shaila Winston, a senior at LaRue County High School, is the recipient of the 2013 Cantrell-Lorey Scholarship. 

The Cantrell-Lorey scholarship is an annual scholarship donated by a former graduate, Emma Cantrell (Lorey) — Class of 1958 and her husband. Shaila plans to attend the University of Kentucky and major in biology.

Propes is a community treasure
I met Donnie Propes in 1986, while his wife Janet served as the county treasurer. It was easy to tell that they were both God fearing people who loved their community and were willing to do anything for their friends and family.
Janet was taken far too early in life from all of us, as we lost a wonderful lady in our community. But Donnie picked up the pieces and carried on as Janet and God would want him to.

Affordable Care Act creates...

Hidden taxes, additional costs and a lot of uncertainty face small employers as they begin dealing with the fallout of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
PPACA, commonly called Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act, was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010. It’s a complex statute that many are struggling to understand.
Recently, Bob Sims, community and economic development director, hosted a program that attempted to explain PPACA.
