  • Black History Month Salute: Rosleen Price

This year the Black History Month Citizen of the Year goes to a lady who has been an inspiration to many people in the community. She is rather quiet until you get to know her and never does anything for “show” or a “pat on the back.”

I often wonder – does she realize how many people she has inspired by her love for people, a kind personality and sweet spirit?

  • LETTER: Searching for the Demumbrums

     Searching for the Demumbrums

I am looking for information on the Demumbrum family of Nelson/LaRue Counties. My grandfather, Tom Shields, served multiple terms as Nelson County Sheriff and was shot near Stiles by Lawrence Demumbrum Jr. on or about Dec. 26, 1960.

Mr. Demumbrum Jr. was born on July 21, 1928, and died Oct. 20, 1965, possibly in an automobile accident.

Mr. Demumbrum Sr. died July 22, 1976, in Nelson County and I have been told he was a teacher at Buffalo High School.

  • LETTER: 31 donated blood

Thank you to the 31 individuals who volunteered to donate blood on Feb. 12 at the Hodgenville Woman’s Club. Two individuals gave using the double red procedure. We received 31 good units of blood and met our goal.

Thanks to Rob Brown, Becky Loyall and Linda Stearman for assisting at the drive and The Sweet Shoppe and Geneva’s Florist for items donated.

Many thanks for your support of the community blood drive which is sponsored by the Hodgenville Woman’s Club. The next blood drive is April 9.

  • LETTER: Don't ignore headache pain

     Don’t ignore headache pain

Don’t let headache pain get ignored.

On Feb. 5, I had severe headache pain and didn’t go to work. My head was killing me.

About 12:30 p.m., I was at Dad and Mom’s house and started to lay down on the couch and my right leg gave away with me.
