  • JUST ASK: Flea market

Are they planning to have “flea market days” at the LaRue County Fairgrounds again this summer?

Marie Riggs, a recent addition to the LaRue County Fair Board, has taken over this project.

Riggs said the flea market will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays beginning April 13.

Call her at 325-3041. She will provide information about costs and set-ups.

  • LETTER: Looking for photos of Ovesen Heights

My father was pastor of Ovesen Heights Baptist Church from about 1972 to 1976.

I am looking for photos of all the churches where he pastored. I recall being in the 25-member youth choir with Beulah Davenport leading. My mother played the piano.

I have been a minister of music and youth since 1979 and am still going strong with a youth group of 22.

If you have photos of the church you are willing to share, please send them or contact me at jimmyjj333@gmail.com.

  • LETTER: Conservation District thanks partners at banquet

The LaRue County Conservation District would like to thank everyone who worked to make this year’s annual awards dinner so successful.

Connie Smith with the LaRue County 4-H Cooking Club and its members once again prepared a wonderful meal that was enjoyed by all. We appreciate LaRue County Extension Service for letting us have the use of their facilities, and their staff for being so pleasant to work with.

  • JUST ASK: The chair

Does anyone know what “the chair” represents?

This wicker chair was tied to a tree behind the LaRue County Courthouse a couple of months ago.

Two people at the courthouse had different explanations. One said someone from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, adjacent to the courthouse, tied the chair to the tree for a church function.

  • LETTER: Expo was a success, thanks to the community

The LaRue County Extension Service and Council members thank everyone for making the 2013 Extension Expo a great success. We thank all of our booth participants and everyone who came out to Expo this year. We especially appreciate the LaRue County Board of Education for allowing us use of the gym school facilities each year and thank Jailer Johnny Cottrill for allowing his staff and inmates to help us with set up and take down of the event. We appreciate all the community support and interest in this event each year.

  • COLUMN: Social media is not the place for political rants

During Sen. Rand Paul’s marathon of a filibuster, I couldn’t help but notice all of the ranting tweets and Facebook statuses my friends and acquaintances posted — negative and positive.

Obviously, as a writer, I’m a strong believer in freedom of speech, which sometimes gets me in trouble, but when you post obnoxious opinions on your personal social media websites, odds are you are probably offending several people.
