  • Perspectives: My First Year in the State House

When I signed up to run for office just a short time ago, I had a strong desire to do all that I could to improve the quality of life in Green, LaRue and Marion counties. After my first year as your State Representative, it is clear that our area has made great strides.

  • LETTER: Food waste

    Dear Editor,

We have a problem. Do you know how much food is wasted and how many children fall asleep hungry? Recently we learned that the world is capable of producing more than enough food to feed everyone, yet some people are going hungry in the world. With the holidays coming up there is so much attention to food. That is why I am writing to inform you about food waste and how to prevent it. Food waste is America’s biggest food problem and it needs to be solved. Hopefully, by the end you will be making a list and organizing your pantry.

  • Proud to be an American

The holidays are filled with so many events and things we can or want to do; it’s hard to pick what ends up making the list of what you do, where you go, and who you do those things with.

The season of frigid nights, warm gatherings, and good cheer is upon us as we prepare for 2018. This year was a whirlwind in the General Assembly as we passed historic legislation in the 2017 Session, held insightful policy discussions across the Commonwealth during the Interim, and analyzed proposed pension reform.

  • Family and Consumer Sciences Extension: building healthy families

In family and consumer sciences (FCS) extension, we work to give individuals the skills they need to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families. Throughout the year, we offer educational programs centered in areas that range from making healthy lifestyle choices to securing financial stability. Statewide, in the past programming year, we have reached more than 1.6 million Kentuckians.

  • Letters: Waste, food for thought

    Dear Editor,

Pope Francis once said, “Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry.” The reason why I include that quote is because of a very important problem, food waste. America is the leading contributor to food waste. It is very important that we bring light to this problem, not only on the holidays, but throughout the year.
