  • Santa’s Helpers need our help

    Dear Editor,

    It’s my fourth year helping out with the Morrison Family and Santa’s Helpers. My first year helping I had just lost my son; it was a terrible time. As I was walking into the Buffalo Fire Department, there was a little girl walking out with a toy bigger than she was and a smile that could light up the whole county. Her smile probably saved my life.

    I watched them give toys, clothes, bicycles and saw how happy the children were and their parents. They got me get through another Christmas. They will help me get through this Christmas.

    With only about two-and-a-half weeks left before Christmas, time is drawing short for those looking for the perfect gift or a holiday event to attend.

    Fortunately, there is help available, beginning with the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet and the Kentucky Arts Council.  The websites for both (Kentuckytourism.com and artscouncil.ky.gov) have collected long lists of available businesses and attractions that are doing their part to make the season special.

     While we like to think of the holidays as a picture-perfect Norman Rockwell painting, they tend to be the exact opposite and full of stress for everyone around. Think about it—from buying presents and extra food to visiting relatives you hardly ever see, stress can come from all sides during this time of the year.
