  • Letter to the editor - Thank you for help, support of LaRue County Fairgounds Haunted House

    Dear editor,

As president of the LaRue County Fair Board, I want to thank the follow businesses that supported the LaRue County Haunted Barn at the fairgrounds. We had a good turn out and a lot of people enjoyed it. We are looking forward to doing it again next year and making it bigger.

  • Letter to the editor - The eye opening problem of litter

    Dear editor,

To cast blame without also accepting claim would be arrogance at its best.  Recently, I had the opportunity with a group of family members to go through some of the county roadways, retrieving litter that people had discarded as they traveled to and from.  Some were likely passing through, others leaving home, or perhaps returning home.

  • Surprising amount of trash found at pick up

    Dear Editor,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that Parkway Baptist Church participated in the Trash for Cash program on Saturday, November 12.

Eleven people supporting Parkway Baptist Church Local Missions came out to clean roadways in LaRue County. These people ranged in age from 8 to 71.

Our teen participants commented that the most unusual items found were diapers. Yuck!

  • LETTER: Leave it cleaner than you found it

    Dear Editor,

At the conclusion of every outdoor adventure during my childhood, my older brothers and I would hear our dad’s camp cleanup doctrine, “Leave it cleaner than we found it.”

As an adult, I hear those words echo around my mind whenever I cleanup the trash in my yard before mowing, pack up spent shotgun shells after a dove hunt, or do one last walk through of a sandbar before getting back in my kayak on a river float. He, my dad, engrained in us the importance of stewarding well the earth God has given us.

  • LETTER: Thank you for support of Fall Music event

    Dear Editor,

Thank you seems like such a small way to acknowledge the wonderful support this community has given for the Hodgenville Fall Music Event this year and all three years of its’ existence. The Thoroughbred Chorus gave a world class performance Saturday evening to a very appreciative audience. Drew Wheaton and Half Ton Quartet performed at each of the LaRue County schools on Friday and even some of the faculty members were good sports and performed with them. The students at each school were very respectful and attentive to the program.

  • LETTER: Litter a nuisance

    Dear editor,

My name is Sandy Kidd and I am the Local Missions Leader for Parkway Baptist Church at 325 Old Sonora Road in Hodgenville. I was able to organize a group of seven on Saturday, October 29 who participated in roadside clean up on Old Sonora Road, Dorsey Lane and Tonieville Road.

It is amazing what people will throw out on the roadside. The most interesting items we found were seven bags of kitty litter, used kitty litter that is.

  • Letter to the editor - To the dispatcher who went above and beyond, thank you

    Dear Editor,

I am enclosing a copy of a letter sent to Craig Dunn who is the E-911 director and supervisor of a dispatcher named Emmanuel Collado.

A group of senor citizens needed help last Tuesday night and he came to our assistance. We appreciated what Mr. Collado did for us as this letter enclosed will explain.

    Dear Mr. Dunn,

  • Letter to the editor - Concerned over local sales tax

    Dear Editor,

On November 8, voters in Kentucky will elect General Assembly members. This is important because these state legislators will once again consider the local option sales tax. This constitutional amendment would allow local governments to add a new local one percent sales tax in addition to the 6 percent state sales tax already paid on taxable goods. If this happens it will hurt consumers, businesses, and Kentucky’s economy.

  • Letter to the editor - Don’t let presidential race overshadow other races on the ballot

    Dear Editor,

We’d like to encourage your readers to get to know the candidates on the ballot before they vote this election. Presidential races sometimes overshadow down ballot races and this year is no exception. Please know there are other very important offices on the ballot including U.S. Senate, Congress, State Senate, all 100 seats of the Kentucky State House and city council races.

  • LETTER: Thank you for support

    Dear Editor,

I would like to thank Cindy Cruse, manager of Save A Lot, and an anonymous band parent for the donation of snacks and water for the Band of Hawks. It’s community support that glues our group together.

    Sincerely,

    Patty Ford
