  • Glen Rice Concert Series continues Aug. 10

    Glen Rice, Family and Friends Musical Concert Series continues its seventh season at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at the Hardin County Performing Arts Center.
    The concert is themed “Re-living the Memories” with songs from the 1950s and 60s. It will feature Rice, Christy Miller, Roger Conley, Pat Portman, Allen Hilbert and Amber Martin and The Musical Concert Series Band, Freddy Helm, Tony Cook, Ron Benningfield, Mike Ash, Camille Turner, Eddie Black, Rick Durham and David Keene.

  • Hitch a ride to Hike for Hosparus

     The sixth annual Hike for Hosparus will be Aug. 25 at Bowman Field in Louisville. Registration begins next to the food trucks at 8 a.m.; the 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. Hike proceeds benefit Hosparus’ Kourageous Kids program for terminally ill children. 

  • Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange established by executive order

     Governor Steve Beshear last week issued an executive order establishing the Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange, a requirement of the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA). 

    The Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange is an online marketplace that will provide one-stop shopping for individuals to enroll in qualified health coverage plans.  Those plans may be offered through the exchange or coverage through other federal or state health care programs, including Medicaid and the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program (KCHIP). 

  • School board hears personnel changes

     The LaRue County School Board heard the following personnel recommendations July 16:

    Employment of:

    • Tonya Miller as instructional assistant at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, effective June 21.

    • Eric Allen as head baseball coach at LaRue County High School, effective June 25.

    • Diane Miller as secretary at the Central Office Family Resource Center, effective June 29.

    • Debbie Wooden as substitute bus monitor for the LaRue County Bus Garage, effective June 29.

  • Kentucky Down Under brings program to library

    When you think of a library, a quiet, peaceful environment usually comes to mind. The LaRue County Public Library was far from that on Friday, however, as it played host to 120 people, two Kentucky Down Under representatives and several native Australian animals.

  • Hubbard shares memories of school days, friends

     Nancy Hubbard recites the poem “Once There Was a Watermelon” as if she had just memorized it yesterday. But the words come to her from many, many years ago – a remnant of her Hodgenville schooling in the 1920s.

    Day Camp
    A 4-H Day Camp will be held 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 25 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Participants will make several projects that can be entered in the LaRue County Fair, including a basket and a birdhouse. The cost is $5 and includes lunch. Participants will also make brownies which they can make again at home to enter in the fair on July 30. This day camp is open to youth ages 9 to 12. Call the Extension Office at 358-3401 to sign your child up to participate.
