Betty Wood is a mother, grandma, and has been married to the same man – Jimmy Wood – for 32 years.
Yet she is celebrating her birthday – on the correct day – for only the 13th time today.
Wood, 52, is one of about 187,000 Americans now living who were born on Feb. 29 – known also as Leap Day. The birthday comes around every four years, thanks to a calendar devised in the days of Julius Caesar. A year is actually 365.24219 days – not 365 – and Leap Year takes care of the fractional days.
