  • Howell named agricultural coordinator

    Mark Howell, a member on the LaRue County Conservation District Board of Supervisors, has been named agricultural coordinator for the Bacon Creek water project.
    Howell, a long-time farmer, will be working closely with Kentucky Waterways Alliance to get farmers interested in best management practices to improve water quality in Bacon Creek.
    The project will last about three years and will address both agricultural and human sources of pollution in the watershed.

  • SRAP program for crop loss deadlines July 29

    Farmer and ranchers applying for assistance for 2009 crop losses under the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments program have until July 29 to submit an application.

  • Deadline for 4-H Fair projects is Monday

    The LaRue County Fair is an excellent opportunity for youth to showcase their talents. Numerous 4-H classes are offered. Categories include arts and crafts, photography, foods, houseplants, vegetables, crops, electric, woodworking, entomology, honey, forestry, geology, sewing, knitting, crocheting, breads, dairy foods, food preservation and home environment.  
    A complete list of 4-H classes is included in the fair catalog. Stop by the Extension Office if you need a copy of the catalog or if you have questions about entry requirements.  

  • It’s LaRue County Fair time - livestock events

    LaRue County Fair livestock entries are generally open to the world, but must meet several requirements including exhibition health requirements with a health certificate and ownership by certain date. Some livestock show classes require an entry fee, some do not.
    Livestock exhibition actually begins Friday, July 22 with the walking horse show. Saturday is the saddlebred horse show. Other horse shows are a youth academy and open fun show, miniature horse show and mule show on July 27, 29 and 30 respectively.

    If you are like most people, it is simply a fact of life that from time-to-time, you worry. 

    We worry about our children, family in general, finances, and sometimes our safety.  There are some things we cannot control, such as the weather; and we find ourselves worrying about ruined trips because of rain, our crops because of not enough rain, getting an incurable disease: it goes on and on. 

  • GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY: David and Betty Dever

    David and Betty Dever will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a celebration given by their children, Fred Dever and Teresa Perkins, and their grandchildren. 

    It will be held 2-4 p.m. July 24, 2011, at Salem Christian Church, Hodgenville.

    The couple married July 25, 1961, in Celina, Tenn.

    David retired from Louisville Bus Company (TARC) in 1993. Betty is a full-time mother and homemaker.

    They are active members of Salem Christian Church.

    All friends and relatives are invited.

    Gary and Joyce Reynolds of Magnolia are pleased to announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Courtney Beth Reynolds, to Robert Andrew Bowling, son of John Carroll and Lora Bowling of Lyons Station.

    The bride to be is a 2006 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2010 graduate of University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She works as a registered nurse in the emergency department at University Hospital in Louisville.
