  • ACT data to be released in September

    Individual school ACT data for the junior class who took the assessment in March 2013 is scheduled to be released the end of next month.  

    As school staff, parents, and students study the results, it’s important to remember that good scores on the ACT and other assessments, though desired, are not the ultimate goal.

  • MAC grant program to benefit local teachers

    For the 11th consecutive year, Hodgenville-area middle school teachers will have the opportunity to “Make Activities Count” in the classroom through McDonald’s MAC Grant program, which rewards teachers for innovation and creativity in the classroom by providing funding for hands-on classroom activities.

  • Hawks drop first two games

    MARION COUNTY 9, LARUE COUNTY 1. Senior forward Curtis Milby scored the visiting Hawks’ lone goal in the LaRue County Soccer Hawks’ opening game on Aug. 20.

    The Hawks fell to Marion County 9-1.

    BARREN COUNTY 5, LARUE COUNTY 2. Curtis Milby had one goal and one assist and Quintin Majors had one goal as the Hawks lost on the road Thursday to the Trojans.

    Goalkeeper Holden Blair had 18 saves for LaRue County. Hawks backup keeper Hunter Thomas made four saves.

    UP NEXT: LaRue County hosts Thomas Nelson at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

  • Coach: Middle school Hawks are ‘tough’

    Serving for the first time as the LaRue County Middle School Hawks coach, Elijah Zwiep said he is ready to tackle the season with his all around best.

    Having helped coach the high school Hawks for the past several years, Zwiep was asked by head football coach Josh Jaggers to lead the LCMS Hawks into a program that mirrored the varsity program.

  • Sallee’s promotes students

    Sallee’s Family Taekwondo conducted color and black belt testing Aug. 3 at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park in Hodgenville.

    Randall Sallee Jr., a fourth-degree black belt in Songham Taekwondo, and a long-time member of the American Taekwondo Association is the school’s owner. Sallee, who also owns a school in Campbellsville, brings both of his schools’ students together for this outdoor event each year.

  • Bicycle tour set for Sept. 14-16

    The American Lung Association in Kentucky’s 28th annual bike ride, presented by Kindred Healthcare and KentuckyOne Health, is scheduled for Sept. 14-16.  

    The Bike Trek’s round-trip route begins and ends in historic Harrodsburg, with the first night’s stay at Danville’s Pioneer Playhouse, where travelers will be treated to free massages, dinner and music by the Dave Shelton trio.
    Sunday’s ride takes cyclists to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.

  • Golfers can reserve tee time online

    Golfers can now go online to reserve tee times at all 16 of the golf courses operated by the Kentucky State Parks, said Commissioner Elaine Walker.

    “This service will make it easier for our golf customers to make reservations,” Walker said. “It also makes our courses available to more golfers in Kentucky and other states.”

    The online reservation system is operated by GolfNow, which is owned by The Golf Channel. Golfers can visit www.parks.ky.gov and click on the “GolfNow” logo to make a reservation.
