  • Farm Calendar: Updated 0801

    ACRE deadline extended

    The 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) production certification deadline has been extended to Sept. 1.

     

    Emergency loans available

    LaRue County has been declared a “contiguous county” due to damages and losses caused by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that occurred April 22-May 20. Eligible family farmers may qualify for FSA EM loan assistance pursuant to Section 321(a) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act.

  • Help cattle beat the heat

    It is Hot! Periods of heat stress call for cattle producers to make sure their animals are adequately prepared. One of the most important things producers can do is provide cool, clean drinking water. Providing an adequate source of drinking water helps to keep animals’ internal body temperatures within normal limits.

    Above ground water lines need to be shaded so they do not can act as solar water heaters and make the water too hot to drink.

    Rabbit Show deadline

    The State 4-H Rabbit Show entry deadline is Aug. 5.  4-H members planning to show at the State Fair 4-H Rabbit Show must submit their registration form to the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 5.  Registration forms are available at the Extension Office. Call 358-3401 with questions.

    The 4-H Poultry Club will meet on 3:30 p.m. August 15 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

  • Students encouraged to make healty choices

    One of the biggest challenges for school food services today is getting students to accept and to select the healthier choices they are offered.

    Dr. Cyndie Story, a registered dietitian and certified chef at Culinary Solution Centers

    in Jacksonville, Florida, met with LaRue County’s food services personnel last week to show them some ways food preparation can help students make better selections.

  • Comcast offers low cost Internet to qualifying families

    With today's society relying so heavily on Internet, Comcast has implemented a new program to provide certain households with students receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program, a low cost Internet service.

    The program, Internet Essentials, costs qualifying LaRue County families a mere $9.95 per month (plus tax).

    For those who qualify, there are no activation fees, equipment rental fees or price increases.

  • Registration open to win $500 college savings account

    Two students will win $500 college savings accounts at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville Aug. 18-28. The accounts are being given away by the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust, the state’s official 529 college savings plan.

  • Policy for free and reduced lunch released

    LaRue County Schools announces its policy for free and reduced price meals for students under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.

  • Bethlehem High School reunion

    The Bethlehem Alumni Committee and Bethlehem High School will host the second annual reunion Aug. 5-6 at Bethlehem High School in Bardstown. Friday night there will be a reception for any alumni who graduated in a year ending in a 1 or a 6. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

    Saturday at 12:30 p.m. there will be a luncheon for the 1961 class to celebrate their 50th graduation year. This will be held in the Sr. Mary Rachel Rooks Library. Reservations requested.
