  • Chap. Randy Edwards receives Legion of Merit

     Chap. (Lt. Col) Randy Edwards, outgoing Division West chaplain, received the Legion of Merit award from Maj. Gen. Perry Wiggins, Division West, commanding general during his retirement ceremony Dec. 14 at Fort Hood, Texas.

  • Christmas burglary unsolved

     The LaRue County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home break-in that occurred on Dec. 17.

    According to Chief Deputy Russell McCoy, someone kicked in the back door of a house on McCubbins Road between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Several items were taken including a 12-string guitar, presents from under a Christmas tree and a jewelry box “full of jewelry.”

    Deputy Robby Brownfield is investigating.

     Hodgenville City Police are investigating a “big boom” that startled several individuals about 9:10 p.m. Jan. 2.

  • Heath congratulated by a 'circle of friends'

     Friends, family and co-workers filled Sunrise Manor’s Adult Daycare facility Thursday to offer best wishes to Beverly Heath on her last day as director.

    Heath, retiring after 25 years, began her Sunrise career as a nurse’s aide before taking over as daycare director. She’s seen the program grow from three clients to 18; the daycare expand from a room to its own building; and a name change. Signature Healthcare, the managing company, has dubbed it Sunrise Manor Silver Angels Adult Daycare.

     Poultry Club

    The 4-H Poultry Club will meet 3:30-5 p.m. Jan. 9 at the LaRue County Extension Office, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville.


    Livestock Club

    The 4-H Livestock Club will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Extension Office. Youth interested in showing livestock are required to have a minimum of six livestock educational hours. For more information, contact Misty Wilmoth at 358-3401.



  • Jerianne Strange joins Herald staff

     Jerianne Strange has accepted a position with The LaRue County Herald News.

    Strange will work as a copy editor and reporter. Her responsibilities include page design, covering school board meetings and writing feature stories.

    She got her start in community journalism at a weekly newspaper in Pennsylvania.

    “I really enjoyed the weekly paper and the connection it had with the community,” Strange said.

  • FUNDRAISER: Living Strong team holds soup supper

     Living Strong team holds soup luncheon

    The Living Strong team will hold a soup luncheon at First Baptist Hodgenville gym at noon Jan. 27. All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. The team will serve a variety of soups, sandwiches and homemade desserts; donations only. This team also has purple and white baseball shirts with “Friends Don’t Let Friends Fight Cancer Alone” on the front. They are $12 each with an additional charge for shirts larger than XL.
