The Hodgenville emergency siren on Greensburg Street was destroyed by lightning recently. Due to the age of the system, officials were not able to locate replacement parts to make repairs.
The city purchased a new electronic system that will be activated from the local 911 system during a threat of severe weather.
Mayor Terry Cruse said the new equipment cost about $1,700, but will serve the community for several years.
The Magnolia emergency siren was struck by lightning about six months ago and has been replaced as well.
