  • Careful planning makes for successful student garden

    Students in Debbie Taylor’s class at LaRue County High School have transformed what previously was a grass lawn into a “Secret Garden,” lush with vegetables and flowers.

    “This was probably the most successful project I have done in a long time,” Taylor said after holding a garden party to celebrate the class’s success.

    She and her students used shovels to dig a pond around which they placed plants, rock, and mulch. They added a concrete table and benches, plus other benches for sitting and relaxing.

  • Puryear named to Dean's List at Transy

    LaRue County High School graduate and Transylvania University sophomore Curtis Puryear has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2010 winter term. 

    He achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average during the term.

    Puryear, a philosophy and psychology double major, is the son of Carlton and Donna Puryear of Hodgenville.

  • Cumberland Products purchases second site

    Locally owned business Cumberland Products Inc. serves customers from all parts of the country. Now, in the midst of economic struggle and high unemployment, an expansion project by the company may provide a glimmer of growth for LaRue County.

    President Wayne Moore started Cumberland Products with his wife in 1991. The company was  founded in Greensburg, but in 1999, it moved to Hodgenville when Moore purchased 10 acres on Commerce Drive, where the company currently operates.

    Off to camp

    4-H Campers will be leaving for camp Tuesday, June 29. Campers should arrive at the Nationwide Uniform Parking lot on Old E'town Road by 7:45 a.m. For more information, call 358-3401.

    4-H Campers are expected to return from camp by 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 2. All campers must be signed out before being released to a parent or approved pick-up person.

     

    Gardening Club

    The 4-H Gardening Club will hold its last meeting 10 a.m. July 10 at Lee’s Garden Center, Bardstown Road, Hodgenville.

  • ALES Cabinet members announced

    Abraham Lincoln Elementary School announced its final recipients of this year’s Lincoln Presidential Cabinet Awards.

    Nominated by several of her fellow instructional colleagues, Donna Sherrard is this month’s classified winner. She has been with the LaRue County Schools since 1992 and has served as an instructional assistant for both the classroom and special education. She has a great “can do” attitude and is always busy working with a child, grading papers, making observations for a teacher’s records or monitoring a group of children.

  • Campbellsville University announces Dean's List

    Campbellsville University has announced the academic honors’ list for the spring semester.

    The academic honors’ list recognizes students who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or above for the semester with a course load of at least 12 hours.
