  • ENGAGEMENT: Whobrey - Vertrees

    Mr. and Mrs. Michael Whobrey of Clarkson would like to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Whobrey, to Matthew Vertrees, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Vertrees of Upton.

    The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Upton Baptist Church. Brother Larry Brown will officiate.

    A reception will follow at the Upton Community Center.

    Some invitations have been sent but all family and friends are welcome.

  • ENGAGEMENT: Lawless - Phelps

    Kelly and Denise Lawless of Hodgenville announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Whitley Lawless, to Caleb Phelps, son of Glenn and Terri Phelps of Hodgenville.

    The bride to be is a 2009 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2013 graduate of Western Kentucky University. She earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

    The prospective groom is a 2009 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2012 graduate of Campbellsville University. He is an associate pastor at South Fork Baptist Church.

  • It’s time for crop exhibits at the LaRue County Fair

        The 2013 LaRue County Fair is June 14-22 and LaRue county residents are encouraged to enter garden and crop exhibits. Agriculture remains a strong part of our 106th LaRue County Community Fair.

    USS Columbus veterans reunion
    Navy and Marine Corps shipmates who served on the USS Columbus CA-74/CG-12 from 1944 to 1976 and the USS Columbus SSN-762, past and present, are invited to share memories and camaraderie.

    The USS Columbus CA-74/CG-12/SSN reunion is Oct. 2-6 at Hilton, Branson, Missouri.

     Kyle DeVary, a senior at LaRue County High School, recently completed Western Kentucky University’s ASSET (Agriculture Students Striving for Effective Tomorrows) program for agriculture students.

    Yard sale at OLM
    Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church is having a yard sale 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. June 15. Proceeds will fund the costs of their youth group attending a Catholic youth conference.

    Moonlight Big Band
    The “Moonlight Big Band” will perform at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Rotunda, in Bardstown 7:30-10 p.m. June 24. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy the musical styling of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorcy and many more.

  • Senior Choir celebrates 103 years of harmony

    Seldom do you hear of a gospel group singing more than 100 years.

    The First Baptist Senior Choir celebrated their 103rd Anniversary in high fashion Sunday with new uniforms. They were honored and recognized by the congregation.

    The Senior Choir was organized in 1912 by Addie Wheeler, the wife of Rev. W.W. Wheeler. She later became the first president; Carrie Bell Williams was the first organist.
