  • Lincoln Days: Oct. 1 is deadline to enter costume contests

    Lincoln Days will be held Oct. 5-6.

    The Little Abe, Little Sarah and best-costumed family contests will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

    All contests will be on the Main Stage on Lincoln Square, Hodgenville.

    Little Sarah is open to all girls in two divisions: ages 3-6 and 7-10.

    Little Abe is open to all boys in two divisions: ages 3-6 and 7-10.

    The family contest is open to any family with at least three members dressed in pioneer or antebellum costumes.

  • Principals share ‘TELL’ results

    During the Sept. 16 school board meeting, each of the LaRue County Schools’ principals presented their individual TELL Report results for this year.

    The TELL Survey (or Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning Survey), is offered to “all licensed school-based educators including teachers, administrators, media coordinators, counselors,” according to its website. The Kentucky Department of Education contracted with the New Teacher Center to administer the survey on a state level.

  • Contractor asks for new trial

    A civil suit filed by a contractor against the LaRue County Community Fair and Livestock Exhibition was settled last month. However, Calvin Hornback, the man who built the “Morrison-Phelps” building at the fairgrounds, has requested a new trial.

    Hornback was contracted by the fair board in 2010 to construct a 40x72-feet building on the grounds on Greensburg Street. The building was paid for in part by a grant for $82,100 from the Kentucky Agriculture Commission.

  • Free Movie Night: Old Dogs Saturday

    The next installment of Free Movie Night is “Old Dogs” with Robin Williams and John Travolta.

    The 88-minute movie will be shown 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Hodgenville Civic Center, 200 S. Lincoln Blvd.

    Williams and Travolta play two business partners who must care for 7-year-old twins.

    It’s rated PG for mild rude humor according to http://www.imdb.com. There are scenes with “large amounts of cleavage,” Williams in a speedo and ultimate Frisbee played with “jail rules.” Three curse words were noted.

  • ENGAGEMENT: Miles - Grimes

    Christa Gail Miles of New Haven and Christopher James Grimes of Magnolia announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride to be is the daughter of Doug Miles and Lisa Lands of New Haven.

    The prospective groom is the son of Gordy Grimes of Magnolia and Judy Grimes of Hodgenville.

    The wedding is Sept. 28, 2013. There will be a reception to follow the private ceremony at Guthrie Opportunity Center in Bardstown starting at 7:30 p.m.

  • BIRTH: Heath

    Jason and Tiffany Heath of Turners Station are proud to announce the birth of their son, Justin Ty Heath.

    Justin Ty was born at 10 a.m. Aug. 8, 2013, at Frankfort Regional Hospital.

    He weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

    He was welcomed home by siblings Cody, 5, and Jaycie, 15.

    Grandparents are Jan Gardner of Louisville; and Pat and Beverly Heath of Hodgenville.
