  • KHSAA plans to redraw district alignments

    The Kentucky High School Athletics Association has issued a draft plan to redraw district alignments in football for the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons.

    In a letter to superintendents, athletic directors and coaches, KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett said school enrollment data for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 years was averaged to place schools in the six classes.

    The new alignment would put 31 schools in Class 6A (the largest); 51 in Class 5A; 38 in Class 4A; 41 in Class 3A; 40 in Class 2A; and 33 in Class 1A.

  • Project Graduation appreciates help

    Parents of graduating seniors are at work on funding Project Graduation for the 2011 graduating class. This annual event is an opportunity for students to celebrate this milestone in a fun and safe environment.

    This year we started our fundraising drive by hosting a booth at Lincoln Days. We want to thank all parents that donated items to sale and those who worked.

    Kindergarten registration

    ALES will have registration for kindergarten 3:30-6 p.m. March 18. Bring student’s social security card, original birth certificate and custodial paperwork if needed. Student will need a physical exam, dental exam and immunization certificate before enrollment is complete. Kindergarten testing is April 30 or May 18. Kindergarten Launch is 9 a.m.-noon July 29. More information will be provided at registration or call the school at 358-4112.

    Tournament host Bardstown Bethlehem scored on a penalty kick 15 minutes in, and the rout was on.

    Bethlehem scored four more goals en route to a 5-0 win over LaRue County in the 9th District Tournament semifinals at Lally Field in Bardstown.

    The city is taking the compensating rate for property taxes which will result in little or no increase in city taxes.

  • Grand jury to hear meth case

    Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding methamphetamine labs found Sept. 13 at Renaissance Recycling Center in Hodgenville.

    Officers say four one-step labs were discovered in the dumpster outside the recycling center on East Water Street and components for the illegal drug were found inside the building. Items including lye, batteries, a coffee grinder and chemicals used to make methamphetamine, were found inside a black Nike canvas bag.

  • Lady Hawks' soccer season ends in quarterfinals

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks’ fourth season of varsity soccer came to a close Sunday with a 5-0 loss to the Bardstown Bethlehem Banshees in the 9th District Tournament quarterfinals at Bullitt East.

    Bethlehem (12-7-2) led 1-0 with less than a minute to play in the first half before tacking on a goal shortly before halftime and three more in the second half.

    Bethlehem outshot the Lady Hawks, 16-2 as LaRue County sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Wells made nine saves.

  • Doggone scammers abuse relay telephone service

    Relay telephone service, which is intended to assist deaf or speech-disabled individuals, is being abused by scam artists.

    The scheme allegedly reached LaRue County last week when a local couple, Jacob Jones and Kaitey Sweep, avoided being victims of a “relay call” scammer who claimed to be interested in buying puppies through an online classified ad.
