  • Lincoln National Bank is the granddaddy of Lincoln Days' donors

    The 38th annual Lincoln Days Celebration goes into full swing Saturday in downtown Hodgenville. The festival is the culmination of a year of planning that began as soon as the 2009 version ended.

    The theme is “Made in Kentucky” " a nod to native son Abraham Lincoln and the festival itself.

    The event wasn’t always held in October. In the early years, about 1972 (before the festival was chartered), it was on Feb. 12 " Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

  • Schools end fiscal year with $6.9 million

    Brian Woosley with Stiles Carter & Associates presented the audit report to the school board Sept. 20. The report showed the total general fund cash at June 30, 2010 of $6.9 million, which was up from $6.5 million the previous year.

    Revenue for the general fund was $16.6 million in 2010 with expenditures of $16.4 million. The fund balance for the general fund increased by $180,000 in 2010.

    Woosley noted the food service program remains financially stable and self-sustaining. He also pointed out the program purchased $83,000 in equipment during the fiscal year.

  • Lady Hawks struggle in rematch with Green

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks volleyball team had a busy week winning four and losing four games. They started out the week losing a very tough match against rival Green County 2-0 on Monday night, then beating a very good Washington County team 2-1 on Tuesday night. They split three and three at Elizabethtown Invitational.

    Green’s revenge

    The Green County Lady Dragons exacted revenge upon the Lady Hawks Sept. 20 with a two-set victory 25-17 and 25-20. The Lady Hawks had defeated the Lady Dragons earlier in the season 28-26 and 25-20.
