  • Animal shelter almost complete

     It’s barking room only at the Taylor County Animal Shelter. But that will soon change.

    In three to four weeks, the shelter’s new building will officially open and give staff members many more cages to house animals in need of new homes.

    The new building, built just up the hill from the current shelter, will have a reception area, an office, a kitchen and laundry area, rooms to house animals and inside and outside large animal cages.

  • WEDDING: Ashley Nicole Lee and Brandon Kyle Scott

     Ashley Nicole Lee and Brandon Kyle Scott were united in marriage June 23, 2012, at Rolling Fork Baptist Church in Gleanings. Dr. Dewayne Howell officiated.

    The bride is the daughter of Scotty and Robin Lee of Hodgenville; and the granddaughter of Billy and Joyce Lee of Hodgenville and Louis and the late George Hay of Eastview.

    The groom is the son of George and Ruth Scott of Raywick; and the grandson of Mary and the late Harold Dowell of Ekron and the late James and Mina Scott of Gleanings.

  • 'Hairspray' coming to Hodgenville

     Hairspray the musical is to be presented by Campbellsville University’s theater department for Homecoming at Campbellsville University in the Russ Mobley Theater in the Alumni Building, located at 114 University Drive, Campbellsville.

    Admission is $5 and it can be seen Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.

    The Department of Theater is also presenting the play at Hodgenville Civic Center, 200 S. Lincoln Blvd., at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27; and at 3 p.m. Oct. 28.

  • FFA members compete in Agricultural Communications

     LaRue County High School FFA students Hayley Utter, Kyle Edlin and Shea Elswick will compete for national honors in the area of Agricultural Communications. The three member team will attend a press conference, utilize information gathered in a group activity and be tested on editing, design and electronic media. The competition will be held at the 85th National FFA Convention. Misty Bivens is the chapter advisor. 

  • Circuit Clerks now issuing licenses with veteran insignias

     A new veteran designation is now being printed on eligible Kentucky drivers’ licenses and state-issued photo identification.

    The designation, created by House Bill 221 during the 2012 General Assembly, is available at no cost to anyone who has served in any branch of the armed forces. It eliminates the need for veterans to provide additional proof of military service when receiving certain benefits, discounts and special services.

    We can get our national news on cable television, catch the weather on local broadcast stations, listen to talk radio on the AM or FM dial and follow our favorite blogs on the Internet, but where do we turn for local information that directly impacts our daily lives? More often than not it is community newspapers.

    Technology has transformed how we gather information in the 21st Century. Newscycles run 24/7, tablets and laptops are becoming smaller and smart phones keep getting smarter.
