    Arlene Quinones is off to the races – again – as she embarks on yet another challenge. A student at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Quinones is working on her associate degree in business administration and human resources.  And while the prospect of an office job is appealing to her, it will definitely be a change in lifestyle.

  • Festival of Trees celebration ends Nov. 20 with silent auction and dinner

    Set-up for the fifth annual Festival of Trees is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Lincoln Museum Community Room.

    Participating organizations may decorate a holiday tree, wreath, garland or banner or similar item and enter it on display for silent auction. The silent auction ends 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Proceeds from the sale go to the sponsoring not-for-profit group. Individuals and businesses may also participate if proceeds from the sale are given directly to a specified charity.

    Wellness on Wheels at Hometown IGA

    The Hardin Memorial Wellness on Wheels mobile health unit will be at Hometown IGA 7 a.m.-noon Oct. 25. No charge for blood pressure, body mass index and blood glucose checks. Bone density test and cholesterol panel, $20 each. For more information, visit www.hmh.net.

    Project Graduation and Papa John’s

    LaRue County Project Graduation will hold a fundraiser 4-8 p.m. Oct. 20 with Papa John’s, 30 Shawnee Drive, Hodgenville. Fifteen percent of sales will be donated to Project Graduation.

    Garden Club plant and yard sale

    The Garden Club of Elizabethtown, a non-profit organization, is having a plant and yard sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 21-22 at the Brown-Pusey House, corner of Poplar and Main Street, Elizabethtown. For more information, call 737-5778.

  • Heating assistance available

    The first day to apply for heating assistance is Nov. 1. The application must be made at Central Kentucky Community Action, 120 Greensburg St., Hodgenville, by Dec. 10.

    The low income home energy assistance program requires check stubs or award letters as proof of income.

  • Rita Williams taking leave of absence

    The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, in a special called board meeting on Sept. 15, approved a leave of absence for Executive Director Rita Williams.

    The chamber appointed Charlotte Isbell of Hart County as interim director. Isbell began her duties Sept. 22.

    Williams, according to chamber president Tom Davenport, requested a leave of absence to pursue running for mayor of Hodgenville.

    Williams’ leave has been approved through Nov. 12 with Isbell serving through Nov. 15.
