  • Chamber Winds plan first concert

    Campbellsville University’s Chamber Winds will perform its inaugural concert 3 p.m. Sunday in The Gheens Recital Hall.

    Under the director of Dr. Scott Bersaglia, assistant director of bands and assistant professor of music, the Chamber Winds is a new group at CU. The concert is free and open to the public.

    Heather McDonald of Hodgenville plays oboe with the group.

  • Spring sports passes on sale

    Season passes for softball and baseball freshman, JV and varsity games are available at LaRue County High School. The passes are good for all home games during the regular season.

    Student passes are $20, adults $40. Tickets at the gate are $5 for varsity, $3 for JV and freshman only games.

  • Golf scramble benefits youth baseball

    The LaRue County Youth Baseball Golf Scramble will be 9 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the LaRue County Country Club.

    The fee is $50 per person. Hole sponsorships are available for $50 each.

  • National Guard group plans reunion

    A 40th reunion and anniversary of the Kentucky National Guard, B Battery, 2nd 138th Field Artillery, is set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Elizabethtown Armory on Warfield Street.

    All former members are welcome to attend. This unit was deployed to Vietnam on May 13, 1968.

  • Gribbins may serve 14 years for manslaughter

    A New Haven man who was indicted for double murder pleaded guilty to an amended indictment of two counts of first-degree manslaughter and one count of first-degree wanton endangerment during his pre-trial conference Friday in Nelson Circuit Court.

    The commonwealth’s attorney’s office recommended that Kenneth R. Gribbins serve 14 years on each count with the sentences to run concurrently.

  • Librarian turns new page to retirement

    When Emily Martin, LaRue County Library director, retires April 30, she plans to continue doing what she has loved since she was a little girl – reading.

    “When I was growing up in Franklin, Ky., I couldn’t wait for the bookmobile to come to our home so that I could read some new books,” said Martin, who has spent 26 years as a librarian, the past 12 at the library in Hodgenville.

    A retirement reception will be held for Marti from 1 to 3 p.m. today. The library’s board of trustees is hosting the event at the library.

  • Lincoln Birthplace getting a new name

    The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site is now a park.

    Three years ago, the General Management Plan for ALBNHS recommended changing the name of the site to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park.

    The addition of the Boyhood Home Site at Knob Creek Farm to the site necessitated the change, according to a National Park Service news release.

    A national historic site is defined as “containing a single historic feature that was directly associated with its subject.”
