  • Kentucky State Fair is Aug. 15-25

    As you look forward to visiting the Kentucky State Fair over the next 10 days, be sure to check out the 4-H exhibits in the area known as Cloverville.

    Numerous local 4-H members will have their exhibits on display in Cloverville.

    Items range from vegetables to photography. Items were taken on Monday and judged and displayed to be ready for the State Fair opening on Thursday, Aug. 15. Exhibits will be picked up and returned to the LaRue County Extension office on Monday, Aug. 26.

  • Journey began with a zinnia and ends with a book signing

    Planting a garden is a journey into the unknown sometimes.

    Of course, one knows what they are planting, but the road to harvest can get downright bumpy. Once the garden is planted, that’s the road map and the journey to harvest begins.

    There are unforeseen circumstances like the unexpected visit from the Colorado potato beetles. R.I.P. red pontiac potatoes. I hardly knew ye.

  • Agriculture Market Day set for Aug. 29

    Respondents to a recent online poll in The LaRue County Herald News indicated a majority was interested in a local farmers market.

    For the past several years, LaRue County producers have had a summer, two afternoons a week, farmers market. Unfortunately, this year there was insufficient interest by vendors to have it. However, those interested could still purchase farm produce at various roadside set ups, on farm and at local orchards.

    Pool’s hours
    The LaRue County Park and Recreation swimming pool will be open weekends only in August. It will be open 1-5 p.m. Sundays and 12:30-5:30 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is $6 for 12 and older, and $3 for under 12.
