  • Storage building burns on Jenkins Road

     Sonora and Upton firefighters responded to a report of a house fire on Jenkins Road near Sonora Monday, Sept. 10.

    The property owner, Danny Knight, advised dispatch the house was "on the ground" just after 10 p.m., according to 911 records.

    Upton Fire Chief Froman Peters said the building was being used for storage and no one was living in it.

    Peters said he doesn’t know what started the blaze. No injuries were reported.

  • Legal Aid Society offers clinics in September and October

     The Legal Aid Society, 416 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, will hold free legal clinics in September and October.

    Each session will be held at that location unless otherwise stated.

  • ENGAGEMENT: Amy Michelle Helm and Jonathan Charles Brand

    Todd and Kim Estes of Cecilia and Patrick and Amy E. Helm of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Amy Michelle Helm, to Jonathan Charles Brand, son of Joseph and Jane Brand of Owensboro.

    The bride-to-be is a 2005 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2009 graduate of Western Kentucky University. She is employed at Warren County Public Library in Bowling Green.

    The prospective groom is a 2006 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and a 2010 graduate of WKU. He is employed at JB Hunt in Park City.

  • Greensburg celebrates Cow Days Friday and Saturday

     One of Greensburg’s most anticipated events makes its annual appearance on the city square Friday and Saturday when the Rotary Club’s Cow Days returns to the city.

    Food, fun, music, games and good times will spread to every corner of the downtown area with two stages, vendors athletic competitions, a whole street lined with food booths and the traditional Cow Days parade on Saturday.

     Campbellsville University’s has remained in the top regional universities in the South, according to the U.S. News & World Report rankings.

    The University is listed also in the Chronicle of Higher Education as being among the nation’s fastest growing campuses. It is the 16th fastest growing educational institution in the United States from 2000 to 2010.

    Upton Days 5K Run/Walk

    The Upton Days 5K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 15.  Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. Pre-registration is $15; day of run is $20. Run will start at the Upton Baptist Church Sports Ministry Building. Forms can be picked up at Upton IGA or West Point Bank or downloaded from the Upton Civic Club’s Facebook.

    Goat and Sheep Meeting

    The LaRue County Goat and Sheep Producers Association will meet 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the LaRue County Extension Office. The educational program will be a live demonstration of artificial insemination in goats. Also, the goat and sheep shows at the County Fair will be reviewed. The meal will be potluck with a meat provided. All interested producers are invited to attend.
