  • Student artwork to be exhibited at Woodland Gallery

    LaRue County High School’s advanced art class is doing something that, according to their teacher, Monique Hanna, is a first for the school – exhibiting their works in an art gallery.
    On April 29, from 5-8 p.m., the students will show paintings and a sculpture at Woodland Gallery, 2410 Ring Road in Elizabethtown.
    “Lynn Cowan is the owner of the gallery and has always been very supportive of the art of young people,” said Hanna. “This year the advanced work was so impressive that it seemed only right to put it before the public.”

  • Elk hunt lottery application deadline nearing

    The deadline to apply for Kentucky’s elk hunt lottery is fast approaching.
    Lottery applications must be purchased online at fw.ky.gov by midnight April 30.
    New this year, hunters may apply for up to two of four permit types: bull firearms, bull archery or crossbow, cow firearms and cow archery or crossbow. Hunters may not, however, apply twice for one permit type.

  • Orange card exemption available for youth hunters

    Hunters required to complete a hunter education course to legally be in the field, but who haven’t had time to get their orange card, don’t have to miss Kentucky’s spring turkey season which ends May 8.
    Kentucky’s hunter apprentice opportunity - the Temporary Hunter Education Exemption Permit - allows a person otherwise required to carry a course completion card to use the one-time, one-year exemption instead. Hunter education is mandatory when a hunter turns 13 years old, and includes those born on or after Jan. 1, 1975.  

  • Woodrich named Kentucky’s State Conservationist

    Karen Woodrich has been named Kentucky’s USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service State Conservationist.
    Woodrich comes to Kentucky from Champaign, Ill., where she served as the Assistant State Conservationist for Operations.
    She has also served as acting state conservationist in Vermont and an area conservationist covering 23 counties in Iowa.

  • 4-H Calendar

    Register now for 4-H Camp
    4-H Camp will be June 28-July 1 at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp. Applications are available from the Extension Office or http://ces.ca.uky.edu/larue/summercamp. It is open to LaRue County youth ages 9-14 and in grades 3-8.
    Cost for campers is $165. An $85 deposit will hold the child’s spot until May 20 when full payment is due. Scholarship applications are available for those with financial need. Space is limited for campers and adult and teen leaders. For more information, call 358-3401.

    Project Graduation will hold a fundraiser golf scramble April 23 at LaRue County Country Club. Cost is $50 a player, bring your own team. Payout for first, fifth and ninth place; numerous prizes.
