  • Quarry celebrates grand opening

    Jacobs Energy, a natural resource development company specializing in oil and gas exploration and servicing, is opening Sand Castle Quarry on Attilla Road off Campbellsville Road. The quarry is at the location of the former Tri-County Sand & Aggregate LLC.

    Sand Castle Quarry is a supplier of sand and pea gravel to both commercial clients and individuals at the retail site. Delivery service is available. The products can be used for construction and recreational projects.

  • ECTC presents children’s play

    Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Toy Box Theatre will present a children’s play, In One Basket, 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Science Auditorium on the Elizabethtown campus. Admission is $2. The performance is open to the public.

  • Shipp selected to Georgia Leadership Institute

    Dr. John Todd Shipp, son of Johnny L. and Joan Doty Shipp of Hodgenville, has been selected to attend the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement. The Institute was designed to help school administrators incubate and support sharing of systematic solutions to improve education leadership. The GLISI curriculum is rigorous both mentally and physically. In June, each school system cohort team will send a group of administrators to climb to the top of Stone Mountain, Ga.

  • Tennis teams fall in conference play

    The LaRue County High School tennis team participated in conference play Thursday and Friday with early upsets that saw the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams leaving the tournament early in the bracket seedings.

    LaRue’s Dylan Parr advanced to the second round before being upset in three sets.

    “He played a little inconsistent early but improved throughout the match,” coach Chris Estes said.

    Eighth-grader Ryan Abell also advanced to the second round.

  • Commonwealth Cleanup Day was a success

    Wow, this year is going by so quickly, I feel like I am in a time warp.

    With our winter ice storm and the debris she left behind, we have had a crazy beginning to our New Year.  I have heard that the debris removal teams have just about finished and may be done by the end of the month. A big thanks to all who assisted with this huge-mongous job.

  • National Honor Society inducts new members

    The annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be 2 p.m. May 3 in the LaRue County High School auditorium, with a reception following.

    Students being inducted into the National Honor Society for having at least a 95 percent GPA, and displaying outstanding leadership, and service in the community are Emily Dewitt, Brent Gozzard, Kellise Hoefer, Michael Huff, Shelly Meredith, Dani Peeler, Ryan Ramsey, Shelby Rogers, Andrew Skaggs, Abby Sullivan, Kristin Thompson, Lyndsay Whitlock and Valerie Whitlock.

  • Freshmen whip North Hardin and Marion

    The LaRue County freshman baseball team hosted an invitational last weekend in Hodgenville blanking both North Hardin and Marion County. The Hawks’ only loss was to Male High School.

    In the six-inning format, LaRue’s game with North Hardin was called 10-0 in four innings because of the mercy rule. The Hawks benefited from the aggressive pitching of Kyle Meredith who threw a two-hit shutout.

    Freshman Stephen Carter was 1-1 with two walks complimented by teammate Jesse Johnson who was 3-3 at the plate scoring three runs.

  • Glendale teen charged in string of burglaries

    Kentucky State Police charged Jonah Robey, 18, of Glendale, with several counts of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle on April 26.

    The arrest came after an investigation of several burglaries in the Glendale area. The investigation is ongoing, according to a KSP news release.

    All property was recovered and returned to the victims. The arrest was initiated by Troopers Brian Mouser and Chris Berry.

  • 4-H poetry winners announced

    Congratulations to all the participants in the 4-H Poetry Contest. Participants are to be commended for their efforts. Fifty-four poems were entered and the poems have been judged.

    The poems were divided into two age groups for judging. Junior division participants are ages 9-13 and the senior age division includes 14-18 year olds.

    The top 10 junior poems and the top two senior poems will advance to district competition.

    These poems also will be published in the District 4-H Poetry Book. All winners will receive a copy of the poetry book.
