  • Herald staffers win LCNI awards for writing, special section

    Linda Ireland, editor of The LaRue County Herald News, was recognized by parent company LCNI in the annual editorial contest.

    Ireland received two third-place awards for news writing and column writing; the staff received third place in special sections for “Lens on LaRue,” an annual section spotlighting work of local photographers.

    The contest was judged by The Roanoke Times.

  • Castorena, Grimes honored by Nationwide Uniform

    Juan Castorena has been selected as the July Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    He has been employed with Nationwide since August 1999 and is under the supervision of Kim Beard in the trouser department.

    Vicky Grimes has been selected as the August Employee of the Month.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since August 2011 and is under the supervision of Nellie Gaskin in the trouser department.

    They will receive an award for dedication and service to Nationwide.
     

  • ENGAGEMENT: Stearman - Thomas

    Tracy Stearman of Hodgenville and Shelly Ogden of Radcliff would like to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Lauren Stearman, to Shawn Michael Thomas of Brandenburg, son of Joan Thomas and stepson of Jeff Thomas.

    Ashley Lauren and Shawn Michael each graduated in 2009.

    The wedding will take place at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 24, 2013, at Brandenburg Riverfront Park Amphitheater in Brandenburg. A reception will follow.

    All friends and family are welcome to attend.

    If you’re accustomed to checking local weather via the Kentucky Mesonet, you may have noticed a change to the website.

    The site, created by the Kentucky Climate Center at Western Kentucky University, provides current weather data and climatological observations as a service to people in communities throughout Kentucky.

    The website now requires a login and password be created “to better understand and serve the needs of our users,” according to the page.

  • Man dies from injuries suffered in motorcycle crash

    A Magnolia man died Wednesday as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash.

    Aaron Barnes, 44, lost control of the 1996 Harley Davidson he was driving about 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, on Ky. 470. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, according to Kentucky State Police.

    Barnes was flown from the scene to University Hospital in Louisville.

    The funeral was Saturday at South Fork Baptist Church.

    Attorney status reviewed
    Jeffery Purdum AKA Purdam appeared July 19 in LaRue Circuit Court without counsel, as his attorney had been suspended from practice for 120 days. His case was removed from the jury trial docket and will be reviewed in August to set new trial date. Purdum (1977) faces seven counts of wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, no operator license, reckless driving and speeding.
