  • Just Ask: How do I stop the telemarketers from calling?

     I seem to be getting a lot of telemarketing calls. I signed up for the no call list. Do I need to sign up again? Does it expire?


    The numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007 which became law in February 2008. First, make sure you are registered. After about a month, you can file complaints about telemarketing calls.

  • SWEETHEARTS: Let the voting begin!

     Don’t forget to vote in our Little Mr. and Miss Sweetheart Photo Contest. Free ballots are available in the Feb. 6 and 13 issues of The LaRue County Herald News.

    Additional ballots are available at the Herald News, 40 Shawnee Drive, Hodgenville, for $1 each.

    The top-vote getters will represent the newspaper in the Lincoln Days Parade in October and be eligible for other prizes.

    The deadline for ballots is Feb. 15.

  • Kentuckians asked to respond to transportation survey

     Time is running out for Kentuckians to share opinions and make their voices heard in a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet initiative to update the Long Range Transportation Plan of the Commonwealth.

    Members of the public have until Feb. 25 to take a brief, confidential survey designed to gauge opinion on Kentucky’s transportation system and what it should offer in decades to come.

  • Kelly Devers named to Dean's List

     Kelly Christen Devers, a junior majoring in social work, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Brescia University, Owensboro.

    To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must complete at least 12 credit hours with a 3.5 GPA.

     The staff at LaRue County Health Department participated in National Wear Red Day on Feb. 1 to show their commitment to fighting heart disease in women. This day is part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign which brings awareness to women’s heart health issues.      Shooting Sports

    The 4-H Shooting Sports will hold practice 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the New Haven Gun Club. The club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month, weather permitting.


    Dog Club, no dogs

    The LaRue County 4-H Dog Club will meet 2:30-3:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Extension office. Do not bring dogs to this meeting. Dogs are allowed at the next meeting, 2-3 p.m. Feb. 23. New members are welcome to attend.
