    The Legal Aid Society, 416 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, will hold free legal clinics in August and September. Each session will be held at that location unless otherwise stated.

    Prime Time Band to perform
    A dance will be held 7-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at the LaRue County Senior Citizens Center, 112 N. Walters Ave., Hodgenville.   • Elliott takes helm at Senior Center

    Karen Elliott began her duties as the new site-based coordinator for the Senior Citizens Center in Hodgenville on Aug. 5.

    “I found out that I had received the position on July 22, when Tancy Morris, the congregate meals program director, called me and offered me the job,” said Elliott.

    Elliott, a LaRue County native, said she is excited to be giving back to the community that raised her.

  • Quick response to Y Not Stop fire

    Buffalo Fire and Rescue squads and LaRue County EMS responded to fire alarm activation Monday at Y Not Stop (Valero gas station), 2202 Greensburg Road, Buffalo.

    The alarm was set off after an electrical fire started in the kitchen area behind the counter of the gas station’s deli.

    A fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire prior to emergency response crew’s arrival.

    Buffalo Fire Chief Wendell Perkins said firefighters placed fans inside the building to circulate the remaining smoke.

  • U.S. Rep. Guthrie to hold town hall in Hodgenville

    Congressman Brett Guthrie will host a town hall meeting 4:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Lincoln Museum Community Room, 60 Lincoln Square, Hodgenville.

    “It is an honor to represent Kentucky’s Second District and I look forward to hearing what’s on the mind of my fellow Kentuckians,” said Congressman Guthrie.

    “There are so many issues in the news today and I think it’s important to provide an opportunity to discuss them.”

  • Thomas Lincoln to be honored

    Thomas Lincoln, the father of the 16th President, will be recognized for military service at a ceremony in Illinois later this month, according to the Associated Press.

    Thomas Lincoln, was a military officer on the Kentucky frontier. He was buried in what was called the “Gordon Graveyard” at the time in 1851. His wife, Sarah Bush Lincoln, was buried next to him in 1869.

    The marker will be put into place Aug. 31. Descendants of the Hall and Hanks families, cousins to Abraham Lincoln, will lay a memorial wreath.

    Saint Catherine alumni reunion
    Saint Catherine Alumni Association of New Haven will hold a reunion 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 18 for all students who attended elementary or high school at Saint Catherine. An “old style Sunday dinner” will be served at 1 p.m. in the school gym. Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $30 per person at the door.  Advance reservations are recommended.
