    The LaRue County Cheerleaders will compete at Region on Dec. 7; State competition is Dec. 14.

    LaRue County High School will host the Corky Cox Classic. The Lady Hawks play Anderson County 2 p.m. Dec. 7. The Hawks play Nicolas County 7 p.m. Dec. 7.

  • Local runners take on the Bourbon Chase

    For those who think a 26-mile marathon is challenging, imagine what lay ahead for the 318 people who ran the 200-mile Bourbon Chase through Kentucky’s heartland this fall.
    Five of the participants were LaRue Countians, running as members of the 14-man Sodico team that included 12 runners and two drivers.

  • Ribbon-cutting held for outdoor classroom

    With the opening of an outdoor classroom pavilion Nov. 12, Bob Sims could check off as completed another goal he has been working on for the past 10 years.

  • Blue & White Night is Friday

    The Hawks and Lady Hawks will kick off the upcoming basketball season with their annual Blue & White Night Friday, Nov. 22 at LaRue County High School gym.
    A chili supper will be held 5-6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria followed by the Blue & White activities in the gym starting at 6:45 p.m.
    The meal is $5 and includes chili, sandwich, dessert and drink.
    There is no admission charge for the Blue & White activities. There will be a 3-point shoot out, half court shot contest and players scrimmaging.

  • Family Worship Center buys Sunrise Manor

    The old Sunrise Manor Nursing Home, which sat vacant for two years, is being repurposed.
    The rooms that once housed the aging or infirm will be turned into Sunday school rooms and office space.
    Family Worship Center of Hodgenville purchased the 46-year-old building at absolute auction Saturday, Nov. 16, for $181,000.
    Members of the church hugged each other after auctioneer Gary Reynolds said, “sold.”

  • Skaggs enters Distinguished Young Woman program

    For the first time in several years, LaRue County has a participant in the Distinguished Young Women scholarship program, formerly called Junior Miss.
    Brigitte Skaggs, daughter of Mike and Denise Skaggs of Hodgenville, will represent LaRue County in the state program in January at the University of Kentucky’s Singletary Center.
    Skaggs competed as an at-large entrant (for those counties without programs) in September at Campbellsville University.  

  • Bardstown holds annual Tour of Homes

    The annual Christmas Tour of Homes in Bardstown will be 2-9 p.m. Dec. 7. The tour is sponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club.  

    Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at the Bardstown Visitor’s Center, Court Square, beginning Thanksgiving weekend.
