  • Former bookkeeper sentenced to 30 days

    Jennifer Rose Priddy, 30, of Elizabethtown, a former employee of Dr. Douglas L. Baumgardner, was sentenced to 30 days in county jail and ordered to reimburse the practice $18,069.04.
    Priddy pleaded guilty to one count each of theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception over $300.
    The Commonwealth Attorney recommended five years incarceration. The sentence was diverted and final sentencing was conducted Jan. 3 in LaRue Circuit Court.
    The case will be reviewed July 18.

  • Genevieve Roso retires from Extension Office

    Extension office assistant Genevieve Roso, will retire from her position on April 1. She has been with the local Extension Service for more than 21 years.

    She has given much support to the daily office operations with her skills in multitasking, computer use and bookkeeping. Here, she is presented a service award by Extension Agent David Harrison.

  • National Bible Bee registration underway

    Host registration for the third annual National Bible Bee will remain open until March 31.  Contestant registration runs April 1-May 31. Official contest materials will be released on June 1. Every contestant will receive a Bible, Scripture memory cards, inductive Bible study curriculum, a T-shirt and more as part of registration.
    The Shelby Kennedy Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the spiritual growth of the entire family through Bible study, scripture memorization and prayer, launched the National Bible Bee in 2009.

  • ECTC sponsors Gospel Music Extravaganza

    Elizabethtown Community and Technical College and the First Baptist Church Scholarship Committee will sponsor the 25th annual Gospel Musical Extravaganza 2-6 p.m. Feb. 12 at Elizabethtown Christian Academy, 401 W. Poplar Street in Elizabethtown. Choirs from the University of Kentucky, Murray State University, Campbellsville University and Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will perform.

    Everybody needs to love and be loved. Hopefully we realize that the greatest love of our life should be the Lord Jesus. When we consider what he has done for us and what he will do for us eternally, how can we not love him?
    Jesus was asked one day, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” (Matthew 22:36-38). He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Thinking of who he is and has done for us should lead us to give him our all and let him reign supremely in our lives.

  • COLUMN: Lewis found new calling at Salem Christian

    Sunday evening, it was standing room only as congregation members from Salem Christian, Union Christian and various other churches came together to witness the ordination of Sidney E. Lewis to the Christian ministry.
    I’ve known Pastor Lewis for many years, he once coached my son in minor league ball; his wife, Judy, was a speech therapist at the school, also working with my son. But, it wasn’t until I began attending Union Christian Church that I began to know Sidney Lewis.

  • COLUMN: Diaper age is full of new products and same old poo

    My daughter Amanda called the other day and said she had decided to make the switch to cloth diapers.
    I thought this was an excellent choice as young Lucy will celebrate her first birthday Saturday and with baby number three due in June, Amanda will be going through a lot of diapers. Disposable diapers are so handy but they are expensive and are not environmentally-friendly.

  • Patsy Thomas and South Fork Homemakers honored by Extension Office

    The LaRue County Extension Council presented Leadership awards at its annual banquet last week.
    Patsy Thomas and South Fork Homemakers were the recipients of the 2011 Bobby McDowell Award of Excellence in recognition of their leadership and community service in the county.
    Thomas has been an active member of the Lincoln Days Celebration, Inc., serving as president, vice president, craft chairperson and elementary art and quilt show coordinator.
