Teresa R. McMahan, daughter of Arthur and Patty McMahan of Hodgenville, recently graduated from Ohio Northern’s Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University. She received the degree of Juris Doctor.

On campus, McMahan was active in the Fall National Appellate Advocacy Competition, the Moot Court Board of Advocates, the Legal Association of Women, the Christian Legal Society, the Icelandic Exchange Program, the Street Law Program, the Student Bar Association, the Criminal Law Society and the Federalist Society.

Hodgenville Main Street/Renaissance Association will hold its annual dinner Sept. 26. The occasion will include a meal, a silent auction and a concert by Water’s Edge.

There will be combination dinner/concert tickets and separate tickets available for the concert only. The music of Water’s Edge is something that will appeal to all ages, of sorts of music fans. It is a fun, excellent performance of tight harmonies, fresh arrangements and vocally produced rhythm.

LaRue County High School graduate and Transylvania University first-year Curtis Puryear was recently inducted into the inaugural class of the Transylvania First-Year Honor Society.            

The society recognizes students who are in the top 20 percent of their class during their first year and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. 

He was also named to the Dean’s List at Transylvania University for the 2009 winter term.

Since I was on the committee that helped select Jaime Smith as the present band director of LaRue County High School, I feel that it is my duty and obligation to defend him against some of the baseless criticism and false comments that he is receiving from an element in the county that cannot find anything positive or complimentary about our school system and some of its personnel, which includes Smith and the band program.
