  • Diabetes Coalition and support groups meet

     Hardin & LaRue Diabetes Coalition

    The Hardin & LaRue Diabetes Coalition will meet 6 p.m. June 5 at the LaRue County Extension Office, Old E’town Road, Hodgenville. It is open to anyone with interest in early diagnosis, reduction of complications, prevention and elimination of diabetes.   • Kelton Ford makes Kentucky Junior All-Stars

     Kelton “Putt Putt” Ford, a junior point guard for the LaRue County Hawks was invited to try out for the Kentucky Junior All Star team.

    Tryouts were held May 6 at Georgetown College and included some of the top junior basketball players in the state.

    Ford was selected to play with the Kentucky Junior All-Stars who will scrimmage the Kentucky Senior All-Star team in Lexington on June 4 and the Indiana Junior All-Stars on June 15 in Indianapolis.

  • Unemployed veterans eligible for new job training assistance

     Elizabethtown Community and Technical College and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs are working together to make military veterans aware of new job training benefits available to them.

    Last November Congress passed the VOW to Hire Heroes Act, which includes the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program for unemployed veterans age 35-60. Scheduled to start July 1, VRAP offers training assistance in high-demand occupations to 99,000 unemployed veterans over two years-45,000 from July 1-Sept. 30, and 54,000 next year.

  • Campbellsville University students serve in summer ministries

     Campbellsville University students are serving across Kentucky and across the globe during summer break. Students are serving at various church camps, interning in a church, serving on ministry teams and serving overseas.

    Caleb Phelps, a senior of Hodgenville, will serve as association pastor at South Fork Baptist Church in LaRue County.

    Chris Mills, a  freshman of  Magnolia, will serve  with KY Changers - NYC.

  • Hodgenville man receives pharmacy degree

     Charles E. Upton Jr., son of Charles and Linda Kay Upton of Hodgenville, was awarded a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy at the university-wide Commencement held May 8.

    The UK College of Pharmacy honored 148 students at the 2012 Graduation Recognition Ceremony May 4 at the UK Singletary Center for the Arts.

    Upton was one of 127 students awarded the degree.

    Bacon Creek Watershed Council will meet 6 p.m. central time May 21 at Bonnieville City Hall. Decisions will be made on group leadership and structure and work continued on outreach and education activities.

    Pork Producers meet May 21
    The LaRue County Pork Association will meet 7 p.m. May 21 at the LaRue County Extension Office. A meal will be served. All interested individuals are invited to attend.

    Soccer parents need to attend
    LaRue County High School girls’ soccer boosters will have a mandatory meeting 6:30 p.m. May 16 in the LCHS cafeteria for all parents of girls who want to play fall varsity or junior varsity soccer.  Elections for upcoming officers will take place.
