  • People are more important than wealth

Recently it was my honor to bring the first graduation address for the Leitchfield Christian Academy, which was founded during my ministry there. My message began with some remarks from the late Sir Winston Churchill made some years ago at a Yale commencement where he followed a Yale alumnus who was receiving an honorary degree. The alumnus had elaborated extensively about the university with each letter of “YALE” a point in his speech.

  • Legal opinion could ease process for expanding gambling

As the legislative special session began, Attorney General Jack Conway released an advisory legal opinion Monday saying it would not be necessary to pass a constitutional amendment to allow video lottery terminals at Kentucky race tracks.

  • Upton’s Wabash Motorsports offers tons of mud and fun

Imagine the street rods racing for the fastest time. Sitting at the line waiting for the green light, revving their engines, then hammering the gas pedal trying to have the fastest time of all your competitors.

At Wabash Motorsports in Upton Saturday night, they had similar racing but under a little different conditions ... mud.

Not only mud, but trucks. Fast trucks.

There were fans of all ages packing the grandstand to watch the trucks race across 150-foot long track covered in a foot of mud.

  • Movie Night: An inexpensive cure for summer boredom

This summer, the City of Hodgenville is taking a small step toward addressing an often-cited need for affordable, local activities.

A free summer movie series will be offered at Hodgenville Civic Center. The monthly event is a small step to address the constant cry of young and old that “there’s nothing to do around here.”

  • Don’t be ‘too important’ for one of God’s miracles

“It’s not right to take bread … and throw it to dogs.” Matthew 15:26

Desperation puts us in situations where we’ve nothing to lose. When our pain level gets high enough, we’ll do whatever it takes to find relief.

  • Care for animals

Hot weather is upon us and with the rise in temperatures comes much suffering for animals.

Dogs are descendants of the wolf, an animal who spends his days in the cool forests or in rock shelters. Just as the wolf seeks shelter from the sun, so also dogs need shade. Rather than providing shade, a doghouse sitting in the sun quickly becomes an oven. Deprived of shade a dog can die a slow and painful death from heat stroke. Dog houses need to be placed under a large tree or a side porch needs to be built on the house to provide shade.
