  • Final film in Free Movie Night series to be shown tonight

    The final film in the Free Movie Night summer series is “We are Marshall.” The 2006 movie will be shown on a widescreen at the Hodgenville Civic Center. There is no charge to attend and popcorn and drinks are provided.

    The movie chronicles the aftermath of the 1970 chartered plane crash that killed 75 people including 37 members of the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team, eight members of the coaching staff, 25 boosters, four flight crew members and one employee of the charter company.

  • Mets are Minor League champs

    The Mets are the LaRue County Minor League Tournament Champions.

    Players include Ethan Blunk, Bryson Cobb, Dalton Skaggs, Dalton Fay, Kendrick Weathers.  Back, coach Chad Skaggs, Hunter Phillips, Briar Holt, Jared McDonald, Justin Hornback, Daniel Beams and coach Tino Cobb.

  • Final youth soccer registration is today

    The final scheduled opportunity to register for the LaRue County Youth Soccer League is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Hodgenville Elementary School.

    Registration is $55 including uniform or $35 if uniform is not needed. A discount of $5 applies for each additional child. There will be a $10 late fee for any signups after the Aug. 8 registration date.

  • Sports safety course available online

    The number of coaches who have completed the state-mandated KHSAA/KMA Sports Safety Course continues to increase at a rapid rate.

    Currently, 2,619 coaches from 262 different KHSAA member schools have already completed the course and more than 1,200 others have signed up to take it. More than 1,400 coaches have completed the online course.

  • Family Fun Day and Free Movie Night scheduled today

    Saturday will be a fun-filled day as Main Street and the City of Hodgenville sponsor the second Family Fun Day at Creekfront Park. That evening, “We are Marshall” will be shown as the final offering of the city’s Free Movie Night summer series.

    From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Creekfront will be filled with booths and demonstrations.

  • LaRue students return to classrooms

    All LaRue County Schools are ready and waiting for the return of students to their buildings Thursday, according to their principals. 

    Abraham Lincoln Elementary

    (Amber Thurman, principal. 270-358-4112. School starts 7:45 a.m. Ends 2:45 p.m., enrollment 492).

    The school has two new Webcam security check-in systems for visitors and volunteers entering the building.

    Staff there are also intensifying their conservation efforts.

  • Free tickets to classic movie offered

    Alfred Hitchcock’s famous silhouette has popped up around Elizabethtown.

    Individuals will have the opportunity to find a silhouette hidden in area business and win free tickets to the showing of “Rear Window” or “The Birds” during Hitchcock month at the Historic State Theater.

  • Fort Knox Federal Credit Union will break ground today in Hodgenville

    Fort Knox Federal Credit Union will expand its branch network with a new facility in Hodgenville. President and CEO Bill Rissel said construction will begin immediately at the LaRue County site at 299 Lincoln Drive. Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

  • Taylorsville woman killed in wreck

    A Taylorsville woman died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Bardstown Road.

    Amy C. Parks, 28, was driving a 2000 Ford Escort north on U.S. 31E, just south of Peak Road, when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle almost head-on.

    Parks was “laying on the ground beside the car” when officers arrived, said LaRue County Sheriff Bobby Shoffner. However, he believes she was wearing a seatbelt while driving and was not ejected from the vehicle.

  • Animal Shelter Adoptions

    The Taylor County Animal Shelter, the agency that houses LaRue County’s strays, has the following pets available for adoption: One terrier mix, three Australian shepherd mix, one westie/bichon mix, seven shepherd/lab mix, two lab mix, one collie, one St. Bernard, two shepherd mix, one Jack Russell mix, one spaniel russell; and seven cats.

    The shelter is at 2175 Hodgenville Road, Campbellsville. Hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information,  call 270-465-7651.
