  • Jeshua Logsdon attends Governor's School for the Arts

    Not only is Jeshua Logsdon becoming well known in this area as a very talented country music singer, he’s also participated in the Governor’s School for the Arts at Transylvania University in Lexington. 

    The 16-year-old son of Randy and Jennifer Logsdon of Upton, he concedes he has been singing “since I could talk.”

    “I started singing in church,” he recalled, “but my first public appearance was when I sang 14 songs at Upton Days as a 12-year-old.”

  • Endowed fund supports ECTC students

    A new endowed fund that will enhance allied health education programs and support student success at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College has been established to honor Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Robbins of Elizabethtown.

    The initial contribution to the fund at ECTC was made by ZirMed, Inc., a leading provider of Web-based technology solutions for health care commerce, headquartered in Louisville.

  • Editor recognized by national group

    Linda Ireland, editor of The LaRue County Herald News, took third place in the National Newspaper Association’s 2009 Better Newspaper Contest and Better Newspaper Contest.

    Ireland entered the “serious column” category. She has won or placed in the top three the last three years in the national contest.

    A total of 1,713 entries from newspapers across the country were entered in the editorial contest.

    Ireland will be recognized at a reception at the National Newspaper Association’s 123rd annual Convention and Trade Show in September.

  • ACCEL program offers discounted tuition

    Campbellsville University, by offering free tuition in the ACCEL Program, is stepping forward and helping those who recently have lost their jobs.

    The university will provide free tuition and related fees, not covered by state and federal financial, or other publicly funded programs, for up to two three-hour classes for any dislocated or recently unemployed adult who enrolls in the Adult College Choice for Evening Learners ACCEL Program, according to Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of the university.

  • 9-year-old finds success in golf preseason

    Having won one summer tournament and placing second in three others, 9-year-old Cameron Lasley of Hodgenville finished seventh overall in the final standings of the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour.

    The fourth grader claimed top honors at the Charlie Vettiner Golf Course in Louisville June 10, finishing with a 69. He was only two strokes away from victory, firing a 48 at the Sun Valley Golf Course in Louisville July 2.

    A member of LaRue County High School’s golf team, Lasley has played the links since he was three years old.

  • Kitchen renovations at Warm Blessings continue

    Volunteers for Warm Blessings soup kitchen continue with renovation at the former Party Plus store, 609 E. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown.

    “The process has been slow but now that the first phase of plumbing has been completed, concrete set, and stud walls up, work is moving forward at a fast pace,” board chairwoman Linda Funk said.

    Electrician Brad Langford has begun the process of removing old wiring from the 50-year-old building, which has been used for a variety of businesses.

  • Blaze wins Wolverine Classic

    The Kentucky Blaze 8U baseball team won Wolverine Classic 8U Baseball Tournament in Frankfort. The Blaze defeated Jessamine County in the championship game 7-2 going 6-0 for the tournament, bringing their season record to 20-2. Team member Jacob Gentry is from Hodgenville.

  • Judge rules employer not at fault for work release inmate’s escape

    A Mount Sherman man who tried to help a friend “get back on his feet” ended up in a judge’s chamber last week, explaining his part in the escape of a LaRue County Jail inmate.

    James Cadigan Jr. was exonerated after he described his efforts in providing a job to Ryan David Robinson, a 25-year-old Magnolia man serving a 179-day sentence on contempt charges for failure to pay child support. He owed about $1,100.
