    Don’t wait ... hydrate!
    The summer is here and we have already endured some very hot days. Hopefully, we are all eating less, exercising more and staying hydrated by drinking more water.
    Water, the nutrient our body needs the most, also helps prevent dehydration. The effects of dehydration can range from thirst to kidney failure and are usually silent but progressive. Therefore, we need to pay attention to the early signs of water loss because before we know it, we can become severely dehydrated.

    Experts in old-time crafts are needed to demonstrate and sell their work at the Northeast Nelson Historical Harvest Homecoming in Bloomfield Sept. 23-25.

    Calling all volunteers to the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce! The summer is a very busy time for the Chamber and we can use all hands. We are currently making plans for our Pride of the Counties booth for the Kentucky State Fair. With this, there are multiple volunteer opportunities.

  • American Red Cross Classes

    The American Red Cross has made a change in the certification period for layperson CPR.
    As of Jan. 1, 2011, certification in Adult, Child and Infant CPR is now valid for two years from the date of training. Certification in Basic First Aid remains valid for three years from the date of training.
    All classes are held at the Red Cross Office at 405 West Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown, unless otherwise stated.
    July 9 – Adult, child and infant CPR/AED recertification with basic first aid, 1-5 p.m., $70; CPR/AED only; $90 with first aid

    LCHS Soccer Boosters to meet
    LaRue County High School Soccer Booster meetings will be on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. July 11 in the LCHS cafeteria. All parents and players are invited to attend.

  • Grants exceed $1 million for Kentucky Farmworker Programs

    The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a $1,210,852 grant to Kentucky Farmworker Programs Inc. to support training, employment and support services for migrants, seasonal farmworkers and their families.
    “This investment is important to Kentucky’s agriculture and rural economy,” said Roger Thomas, GOAP Executive Director. “The services provided through Kentucky Farmworker Programs Inc. will remove barriers so that eligible farmworkers can enter into or remain in training and help stabilize their employment.”
