  • Man enters Alford plea to criminal mischief

     An Elizabethtown man entered an Alford plea in LaRue District Court to a charge of second-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.

  • Man charged with wanton endangerment

     Russell Johnson, 21, of Hodgenville, was charged Oct. 24 with first-degree wanton endangerment by the LaRue County Sheriff’s office.

    Johnson is accused of pointing a gun at a woman who was holding a 2-year-old child.

    He was lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center under $9,500 cash bond.

    He will be arraigned Wednesday in LaRue District Court.

  • E'town man charged with theft of mower

    An Elizabethtown man was charged Oct. 25 with theft by unlawful taking, under $10,000.
    Jason Francis Simon, 35, is accused of taking a 2008 Husqvarna riding lawnmower from a home in the Tanner community. According to Kentucky State Police, the mower was taken on Sept. 29 from the Muir residence.
    John Andrew Muir Jr., 56, and Chong Muir, 71, died Sept. 3 when a car they were working on fell on them. They were found by their son, Danny Allen Muir.

  • Heating assistance available

    Low-income families needing help paying high heating bills can apply for aid through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
    Applications will be taken in alphabetical order from Nov. 12 to Dec. 19.
    Head of household’s last names beginning with “A” will be taken Nov. 12 and so forth. Letters X,Y and Z will be taken Dec. 17.
    If you cannot apply on your assigned day, contact the LaRue County Community Action office at 270-358-3937.
    The office will be closed on Nov. 27-29.

  • Early signups taken for Christmas Eve run

    Snookie Morrison and the Santa’s Helpers are planning their 47th Christmas Eve bus run.
    This year, they are accepting early signups for toys and clothing for children.
    If you plan to attend the Christmas Eve run, sign up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at the LaRue County Fairgrounds.
    The Helpers are having a clothing giveaway on the grounds that day and will be happy to assist, said Morrison.

  • Several indicted by grand jury

    Several people were indicted by a LaRue County grand jury.
    Lenin Wieman Jr. (1962) of Hodgenville, was indicted on charged of cultivating marijuana, five or more plants, and complicity; trafficking in marijuana and complicity; possession of drug paraphernalia and complicity; and possession of marijuana and complicity.
    Bond was set at $9,500 cash only and dusk-to-dawn curfew.
    The alleged offenses occurred Aug. 1.
    The LaRue County Sheriff’s office investigated.
