  • FOR YOUR HEALTH: Know the fat you're dealing with

     Certain types of fat are essential for good health, while others can raise blood cholesterol and have negative effects on cardiovascular health. Fat should not be taken out of a diet completely, but choosing the right fat can be difficult.  It is important to understand the differences in order to make heart healthy decisions. 

  • Spruel named Employee of the Month at Nationwide

     Gwen Spruel has been selected as the February Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since July 1978 and is under the supervision of Kim Beard in the trousers department. She will receive an award for her dedication and service.

     Tyler Alsip, a junior at Campbellsville University, wrestled Nick Paden, a freshman at Cumberland University and LaRue County High School graduate, Friday in Gosser Gym in Taylor County. Alsip pinned Paden (4.32) for the win in the 133-pound class. Campbellsville won the dual 22-18. Todd Allen, another LCHS graduate, coaches the Cumberland University Bulldogs.

  • Mat Hawks win Region Tournament

    LaRue County will send 10 wrestlers to the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament next weekend. The Mat Hawks earned their 13 Region 2 victory with 221 points. Central Hardin was second with 200 points.

    The tournament was held at John Hardin Friday and Saturday. Six Mat Hawks are Region champions –  Kyle Edlin (120 pounds); Dylan West (132); Raymundo Perez (138); B.J. Carman (182); Jared Whitlock (160); and Caleb Canter (170).

    Runners-up: Spencer Hines (145); and Tony Couch (195).

    Third: Tanner Mouser (126)

    Fourth: Dawson Bingham (106)

  • COLUMN: Jesus -- The greatest Valentine

     The words “I love you”engraved on a red valentine can send our hearts racing with joy when received from someone special. Candy, flowers, cards, teddy bears - all send the message of love to those we cherish on Valentine’s Day.

    Recently, I came across a scrapbook of Valentine cards I had received as a small child. They had been special to me then and they were heartwarming to read many years later.
