    Pork Producers to meet
    The LaRue County Pork Producers will meet on 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

    Southern States holds membership meeting
    Southern States Hardin Cooperative, Inc. will hold their annual membership meeting Aug. 23 at 310 West Water Street, Hodgenville. Membership day activities start at 11 a.m. with the business meeting at noon.  

    ACRE deadline extended
    The 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) production certification deadline has been extended to Sept. 1.

    Southern States Cooperative will review its operations at a series of local annual meetings, including the upcoming meeting for members of Southern States Hardin Cooperative, Inc. – Hardin and Hodgenville branches.

  • Fort Knox deer hunting guidelines released

    The dates and guidelines for the 2011 Fort Knox deer hunting seasons have been released to the general public with significant changes sure to benefit civilian hunters.
    Archery hunters interested in hunting at Fort Knox can apply Aug.1-15 while gun and youth hunters can apply Aug. 15-31. Application forms may be obtained at the Hunt Control Office or downloaded from www.knox.army.mil/fw/downloads.asp. All deer harvested on post are bonus animals and supplement the Kentucky bag limit.

  • LaRue CAIP program coming soon

    LaRue County has been allocated $135,000 for the County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) for 2011. This is the third year CAIP has been offered locally by the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy (GOAP) and the County Agricultural Development Council.  The program applicant is the LaRue County Beef Cattle Association, and the grant administrator is Dyan Puckett, 537-3889.

  • Golf team shows steady progress

    The LaRue County golf team has competed in four meets this fall and despite some “pretty common errors” in the first tournament, is showing progress, according to Coach Justin Craft.
    “Many kids lack consistency early in the season, and that’s an area we will look to improve upon as the season progresses,” Craft said.

  • LaRue tops Taylor in season opener

    Sophomore Allison Evans had eight kills and four blocks, and sophomore Ivy Brown had eight kills, two blocks and one ace as the homestanding Lady Hawks held off Taylor County Monday in the season opener for both teams.
    Junior Lauren Meredith chipped in with 16 assists and one ace, while junior Miranda Hornback had two kills and one ace.
    UP NEXT: LaRue County hosts 18th District rival Caverna at 7 p.m. Thursday.

  • Lady Hawks return one starter for fall

    For the past three years, LaRue County has been a force to be reckoned with on the 5th Region volleyball scene. Since coach Ben Schell took over in the 2008 season, the Lady Hawks have averaged more than 23 overall wins and more than 17 region victories per season, appearing in the region tournament every year.
