  • Gaunt to serve 10 years for escape

    A Ludlow man will serve 10 years for his escape from the LaRue County Detention Center.

    A jury found George Richard Gaunt III guilty of second-degree escape, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and of being a persistent felony offender last week.

  • Driver charged with reckless homicide

    The driver of a truck involved in a fatal collision last week has been charged with reckless homicide.

    LaRue County Deputy Russell McCoy said Brian Christopher Smith, 27, of River Road, knew the brakes on his pickup were faulty before the Nov. 22 crash occurred - but continued to drive it. The wreck resulted in three injuries and one death.

    Smith was also charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license and failure of non-owner to provide insurance, according to McCoy. Warrants for contempt of court and theft by deception were served also.

  • Quarry Hill Monuments offers $60,000 for Magnolia School

    The old Magnolia Elementary School will have a new owner. At Monday’s meeting, the LaRue County School Board accepted high bid of $60,000 from Quarry Hill Monuments.

    The property was declared surplus in September and the opportunity for submitting sealed bids began.

  • Hodgenville business robbed at gunpoint

    Police are searching for two suspects who held up a Hodgenville shopkeeper at gunpoint.Jose Francisco Trejo, an employee at Mexico Lindo, 112 S. Walters Ave., reported the incident to 911 about 7:11 p.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Steve Johnson of Hodgenville City Police.The suspects, believed to be two Hispanic males, were wearing ski masks and gloves, Johnson said. One held a pistol, the other a shotgun while demanding money from the clerk. An undetermined amount of cash was taken.A witness saw the suspects leave the scene in a silver four-door vehicle.
