  • PHOTO: Looking Back at LaRue

     UPDATE: Two people have identified the people in this photo. Barbara Cox, who now lives in Louisville, and Ron Walters, confirmed Robert Lee Walters of Magnolia is in overalls. He passed away in 1955. The man sitting on the fender is his son, Arthur Lee Walters of Magnolia. Both are buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery.

  • Cheerleading competition, basketball game rescheduled

    Tonight’s LaRue vs. Caverna basketball game has been postponed until Saturday, due to icy roads. The Lady Hawks play at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Hawks at 8 p.m. at Caverna.

    The inaugural KHSAA Competitive Cheer Championships, scheduled for Saturday (Jan. 26), have been postponed until Feb. 23 at WKU’s Diddle Arena.

    Local crews continue to work wrecks around the county and residents are urged to stay off the roadways.

  • LaRue students perform in 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'

     Three LaRue County Middle School students will perform in the PAC's Missoula Children's Theatre's Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs.

    Haven Renfrow, Alexia Trumbo and Airyl Heath are LaRue County students. Renfrow is a bat; Trumbo is the queen; Heath is one of the Black Forest creatures.

    The three were selected from among 173 kindergarten through eighth-graders who auditioned.

  • Slick and getting worse

     If you can stay home - do so.

    LaRue County roads are extremely treacherous and numerous accidents have been reported. Icy conditions will not improve until temperatures rise.

    LaRue County Schools are closed.

    As of 9:45 a.m., about a dozen vehicles are off the roadway on Ky. 84. Law enforcement and wreckers are having trouble reaching the accidents.

    One officer said the ice appears to be re-freezing as soon as city and county road departments are applying salt to the roadways. 

  • Winter Weather Advisory: Icy mix expected

     The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning for early Friday.

    A wintry mix of precipitation (sleet and freezing rain) is expected with minor accumulations of ice and snow.

    Travel will be impacted due to precipitation occurring during the morning rush hour.

    A winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

    Up to one-inch of snow accumulation and one-tenth of an inch of ice is possible.

  • Four injured in crash near Athertonville

     Four people were injured Monday evening in an apparent head-on crash near Athertonville.

    Two adults and two children were transported by ambulance to Hardin Memorial Hospital. 

    The LaRue County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

     A LaRue County teen is recovering from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday, Jan. 15.

     The cages were empty, with food and water bowls at the ready. Now, the shiny new cages are full of meows and barks.

  • Social Security checks going electronic by March 1

     With less than two months until the March 1, 2013, deadline to pay all federal benefits electronically, the Treasury Department reported that five million paper checks continue to be mailed to federal beneficiaries each month. In Kentucky alone, more than 104,000 Social Security and Supplemental Security Income checks are sent each month.
