  • Freedom Fest scheduled Saturday at Towne Mall

    Freedom Fest ’08 will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Towne Mall in Elizabethtown.

    The event is presented by www.MyArmedForcesHero.com, a Hodgenville-based site developed by Arnie and Susan Lambert along with Gerry Hignite and Tim Thomas.

    The Web site provides free services to military families, keeping them connected with services and family.

  • Police moving next door to City Hall

    Hodgenville City Police will move to the former First Baptist Church educational building next to city hall by the first of the year. The two-story brick building was dedicated in 1953 and was purchased by the city about three years ago with Lincoln Bicentennial funding.

    Police Chief John Cottrill said the new building will contain several offices on the ground floor. He and Lt. Steve Johnson will have private offices while the other officers will share a larger squad room.

    No definite plans have been made for the second floor.

  • Woman’s Club home tour, tasting party is Saturday

    The Hodgenville Woman’s Club’s sixth annual Holiday Home Tour and Tasting Party is Saturday..

    The pre-tour tasting party starts at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse at 19 Lincoln Square and lasts until 3:30 p.m. Appetizers and desserts are prepared by the Woman’s Club members.

    Four local homes will be featured on the tour, 2:30-5:30 p.m.

  • Santa rides the rails at New Haven

    Tickets are selling quickly for the Kentucky Railway Museum’s annual Santa Express. The opening day Dec. 6 already is sold out as well as an evening train Dec. 13.

    During the train ride, a children’s Christmas story is shared, cookies and hot chocolate are served and Santa walks through the train to visit with passengers,

    Upon returning to the station in New Haven, Santa comes into the depot for photos.

  • Rep. Lewis to be honored today

    The Lincoln Museum will honor retiring U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis at the museum during a ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday. The program is expected to last about 30 minutes.

    Lewis, a Republican from Hardin County, is stepping aside after serving 14 years in Congress. His visit to Hodgenville is part of a farewell tour of the 21-county 2nd Congressional District.

    Brett Guthrie of Bowling Green will take the oath of office in January as the district's new member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

  • Stalking charge dismissed

    A charge of second-degree stalking was dismissed without prejudice Oct. 22 against Levi B. Cecil, 19, in LaRue District Court.

    On Oct. 5, Deputy Matt Darst was dispatched to Lincoln Farm Road to investigate a report of a reckless driver. He reported seeing Cecil driving a vehicle “right on the bumper” of another car driven by his ex-girlfriend.

    The charge was dismissed per recommendation of the county attorney.

    The plaintiff is allowed to bring a new case on the same claim if more evidence surfaces.

  • More guilty pleas entered in teen’s death by overdose

    A LaRue County mother agreed to serve 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of her son. Two other women have also entered guilty pleas in connection to the April death of the teen.

    Arrest records showed Vicki Mayo, 51, of Cissal Hill Road, was also on drugs the night her 17-year-old son, Cody Wayne Mayo, overdosed from a cocktail drug combination, including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates and benzites.

    Mayo reportedly found her unresponsive son on the family’s couch and delayed calling 911, according to the indictment warrant.

  • Repairs to LCMS may be complete by spring

    The LaRue County School Board held a special meeting Nov. 20 to award bids for renovations at LaRue County Middle School.

    According to Superintendent Sam Sanders, the bid for windows and heating and air conditioning was awarded to Mechanical Consultants for $2,219,850. The bid included a base price of $1,863,450 and includes HVAC for the gym, windows in the alternative school and windows in the east wing (intermediate school).

    The asbestos abatement project for LaRue County Middle School was awarded to Abatement Solutions for the bid of $33,600.

  • New Haven asked to lower business license fee

    A Hodgenville man and his wife attended this month's New Haven Board of Commissioners meeting to request a lowering of the business license fee for a tattoo and piercing shop they intend to open in downtown New Haven. The fee is currently $1,000.

    Larry Young said lowering the fee would help to make the couple’s business more successful. They said they would like to break the stereotype that sometimes goes along with tattoo parlors. The couple attended the meeting with their two young children and said they are drug-free, have family values and are attending school.
