  • Lighten Up LaRue helped with life changes

    A dream about dying caused Carol Shaw to wake up to the fact that she was destroying her body with unhealthful eating.

    “I had the worst dream that I was really dying,” said Shaw, a LaRue County Schools bus monitor who lives on Jericho Road. “For the past couple of weeks, I had felt bad, and when I woke up from that dream that seemed so real, I realized that my body had been trying to tell me I was damaging my health with the way I had been eating.”

    We are accepting only digital photos this year. Scanned photos do not have the quality of digital – so it’s not fair to those entries. We apologize if this inconveniences anyone.

  • Price hired as assistant principal at LCHS

    Chris Price has been named the new assistant principal of LaRue County High School.

    He learned of his selection July 15 from newly selected principal Kyle Goodlett.

    “I was really excited; hoping that he’d call me to tell me that I did get the job – you never know until you get that phone call …until then there was a lot of nervousness,” Price said.

  • E-town woman receives diverted sentence

    An Elizabethtown woman was sentenced July 9 on charges of receiving property taken from a Buffalo home where a woman was found dead in December 2011.

    Belinda Rae Martin, 28, was indicted in February 2012 for receiving stolen property more than $500.

    According to Kentucky State Police, Martin received items removed from the residence Kristie L. Allen of Hodgenville was housesitting when she was found dead. Abdullah Rahman White of Radcliff is accused in Allen’s death.

  • JUSTICE DELAYED Murder trial postponed one year

    Friends and family members of Kristie Lynn Allen shook their heads in disbelief after learning they will have to wait another year for her accused killer to be tried.

    Monday, defense attorneys for Abdullah Rahman White – the man accused of asphyxiating Allen – asked for a new trial date for the summer of 2014.

    Allen was just 28 when she was found dead of asphyxiation on Dec. 30, 2011, at the home of longtime friends. She was house-sitting for them while they vacationed.

  • Submerged vehicle leads to search for driver

    The LaRue County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene of a suspected drowning early Sunday after a man found his girlfriend’s vehicle submerged in the backwaters off Wayne Ennis Road.

    Sheriff Merle Edlin said his office received a report that Edith Gribbins had “failed to come home Saturday night” after notifying her boyfriend she was on the way.

    “When he woke up about 5:30 p.m., she wasn’t there. He found the vehicle with water to the bottom of the (windows).”
