A couple of months ago, Greg and Bonnie Ballard purchased about 100 acres and an old farmhouse on Bardstown Road at auction.
They wanted to expand their farming operation and expected to have the house bulldozed as soon as possible.
But when they walked inside, they had second thoughts. Inside the frame house is a two-story log house, built about 1890. The huge old logs are visible in a corner near the front door. The original stone fireplaces and hand-hewn handrail are still inside. There’s even a “Harry Potter” style room under the stairs.

The old adage has been used to refer to anything that is underappreciated. It’s easily understood by anyone who has gone for any amount of time without a reliable water supply.
The day Karl Highbaugh’s home was hooked up to a LaRue County public waterline is one of his most memorable.
For about two years, Highbaugh “hauled water” in milk jugs from a nearby farm to his home between Hodgenville and Sonora.

A lot of dirt is being excavated as the City’s sewer line and water main improvement project progresses.
The City is responsible for disposing of the soil, as part of the agreement with the contractor, said Hodgenville Mayor Terry Cruse.
A number of loads have been hauled and deposited at Vic Kahill’s property on Lincoln Farm Road. Cruse said the property has a “large hole” at the back of the lot.

A proposed pipeline that will transport natural gas from Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania to Louisiana’s Gulf Coast may pass through LaRue County.
Plans call for pipelines that would transport the liquids from producing areas to a transmission system in Hardinsburg where they would connect to another transport system to Eunice, La. The proposal also calls for a processing plant to be built in Louisiana and upgrades to existing lines.
LaRue County Judge/executive Tommy Turner received a letter from the developers a few months ago asking about rights-of-way.
