     Buffalo and Magnolia firefighters responded to a house fire just after 6 p.m. Jan. 3. A caller said they could see smoke coming from a residence on Reed Road, Buffalo. They were at the scene about two hours.

    LaRue County Road Department was called to the scene as the water used fighting the fire had accumulated and frozen on the roadway. 

  • Sheriff's audit released by state

     State Auditor Crit Luallen last week released the audit of the LaRue County Sheriff's Office for the period of April 16, 2010, through April 15, 2011.

    The auditor issues two reports each year for the sheriff: one reporting on the audit of the sheriff's tax account and the other reporting on the audit of the fee account used to operate the office.

    The audit found that the sheriff's financial statement fairly presents the taxes charged, credited and paid for the period.

     When Jim Higdon III was a student at Columbia University, he met a lot of intellectuals who he said could not find Kentucky on a map, yet they were entertained by the stories he shared from Marion County.

    “I realized at some point there was a currency in the stories from here, that we had the market cornered on awesome stories,” Higdon said.

  • Gas is 21.3 percent higher than last year

     The U.S. average price of gasoline ($3.26 per gallon), has declined significantly in recent months but still remains 21.3 cents per gallon higher than the U.S. average price recorded last year at this time.

    “As 2011 has come to a close, that's cause for concern,” says Gregg Laskoski, Senior Petroleum Analyst for GasBuddy.com. “Why? For the past seven years, the average price movement from the beginning of the year to the peak price posted during the year has been $0.93 cents per gallon, and as high as $1.31/gallon.”

  • Man cited for DUI, endangerment in New Haven Road wreck

     A Hodgenville man is accused of driving drunk with a 1-year-old child in his van, which allegedly sideswiped a truck on New Haven Road New Year’s Eve night.

    Richard Curtsinger, 47, was injured in the wreck, complaining of non-life-threatening chest, head and neck pain, according to Nelson County Sheriff’s Dep. Reece Riley. Curtsinger was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital, where he was cited for first-degree driving under the influence, aggravated circumstances, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and failure to wear a seat belt.

     A young woman known for her laughter and warm smile was found dead Friday inside a Buffalo home. 

  • Victim identified in College Street homicide

    An Elizabethtown woman has been arrested in connection to a Friday homicide in LaRue County.

    Belinda Martin, 26, is charged with receiving property stolen from a residence at 241 College Street in Buffalo.

    Kristie Lynne Allen, 28, was found dead at that address Friday evening, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

    Allen, according to officials, is the daughter of Beverly D. Constant Allen of Buffalo and David W. Allen of Hodgenville.
