  • KSP offers reminders about Urban Limited plates

    With an alarming number of complaints being received, the Kentucky State Police would like to remind the public about the proper use of Urban Limited plates.
    Urban Limited plates are for use exclusively on vehicles transporting property within the limits of a city or just outside the limits.

  • State property tax set at 12.2 cents

    The Kentucky Department of Revenue has set the 2011 State Real Property Tax Rate at 12.2 cents per $100 of assessed value.
    Kentucky Revised Statute 132.020 requires the Department of Revenue to set the real property rate no later than July 1 of each year.
    This rate is based on the revenue generated from the increase in taxable real property assessments from 2010 to 2011.

  • Kentucky State Police accepting applications for cadet class

    The Kentucky State Police is accepting applications for its next cadet class. Interested applicants should visit www.kentuckystate police.org and click on the Career Opportunities, Recruitment Home and How To Become A Kentucky State Trooper links.

    Information at the site includes an outline of the application process, a list of minimum requirements and disqualifications, a downloadable application form with a list of supporting documents required, a downloadable study guide for the written test and a list of the following testing dates, times and locations:

  • Applications accepted for housing assistance

    The waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program or Section 8 Rental Assistance will accept applications through July 31 in 87 counties, including LaRue County.
    The waiting list for Section 8 will be open, each year, for the months of July and January. In previous years, the list would open and close based on number of responses. Applicants who wish to receive rental assistance from Kentucky Housing Corporation must choose one of the 87 counties.

  • FISCAL COURT: County to receive emergency generator through grant

    If some emergency causes a power outage at the courthouse in Hodgenville, a 130-kilowatt generator will allow emergency services and other offices in the building to continue to function.
    That’s what Tommy Turner, judge-executive, told members of LaRue County fiscal court July 12 at their meeting at the courthouse. He said the building could also be used as an emergency shelter.

  • County's legal action delayed due to death of landowner

    Last month, LaRue County Fiscal Court authorized County Attorney Dale Morris to take legal action against an absentee landowner concerning property in Magnolia.
    The action will be delayed due to the death of the property owner, Karen L. Holm, on July 3.
    The house, located at 392 Old L&N Turnpike in Magnolia, burned almost two years ago. According to Jill Gray, solid waste coordinator, Holm refused to clean the debris or fill in the exposed basement despite an agreement reached in LaRue District Court.

  • Woman appeals to Red Hill Cemetery Board to widen road

    The Red Hill Cemetery Board, composed of Hodgenville City Council members, met Monday night prior to the regular council meeting.
    Diane Osborne of Hodgenville told the Board cars were driving across her parents’ graves in the cemetery. She offered to donate funds to have the one-lane paved road widened in the area beside their graves.
    City Clerk MaDonna Hornback offered to obtain estimates for widening the roadway and present them at the January board meeting.

  • Changes in force for Hodgenville City Police

    Several changes have taken place at Hodgenville City Police in recent weeks.
    JACKSON PROMOTED
    Officer Marcus Jackson has been promoted to sergeant and will act as night shift supervisor.
    Chief Steve Johnson told City Council Monday that Jackson was chief deputy for several years for the LaRue County Sheriff’s Department and had the experience for the job. The extra supervision on night shift will be beneficial, he said.

  • CITY: Locked hydrant poses no threat to fire preventions

    At last month’s City Council meeting, Hodgenville Mayor Terry Cruse brought up the issue of volunteer firefighters hauling water – either for free or a donation to the fire department – to fill residential swimming pools.
    The Council agreed to crack down on the practice by requiring firefighters to keep a log book of any water deliveries and pay for the water. Cruse said the City will install a water meter at the fire department to monitor usage in the future.
