  • Election 2012: Candidate information sought

     All local school board and city council candidates who face opposition in the Nov. 6 General Election have been mailed a questionnaire from The LaRue County Herald News.

  • FISCAL COURT: Taxes set at 18.7 cents per $100 of assessed value

     Real property taxes for LaRue Countians will remain about the same as last year as LaRue County Fiscal Court approved the compensating rate during a meeting at the courthouse in Hodgenville Sept. 11.

    The rate was set at 18.7 cents per $100 of assessed value.

    “I believe this is the third straight year we’ve chosen the compensating rate,” said Tommy Turner, judge-executive. “This rate produces an amount of revenue approximately equal to that produced in the preceding year from real property.”

     Hodgenville City Council agreed Monday – for the second consequent month – to postpone first reading of a proposed 2 percent restaurant tax.

     Dottie Sims, Democratic candidate to represent the 19th state House District, has dropped out of the race.

    Sims said Monday she withdrew for “personal reasons.” The Kentucky Secretary of State website noted she withdrew Sept. 7.

    Sims said she “really enjoyed being a public servant” but she also enjoys being a grandmother. Her desire to spend time with grandchildren Anna, 4; Jonathan, 2; and Katie, 2, means cutting back on other activities.

  • General Assembly's 2013 schedule set

     The 2013 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly is scheduled to begin on Jan. 8 and will last 30 legislative days.

    As usual during an odd-numbered year, in which sessions are half as long as in even-numbered years, the session will have two parts. The first four days of the session – Jan. 8 to Jan. 11 – will focus on organizational work, such as electing legislative leaders, adopting rules of procedure and organizing committees. The introduction and consideration of legislation can also begin during this time.

  • Restaurant tax will not provide 'sustainable funding'

     A proposed 2 percent restaurant tax will not provide sustainable income to LaRue County Park and Recreation.
