LaRue County property owners will see a reduction in school taxes next year.
At the Aug. 15 board meeting, the board unanimously approved to accept the compensating rate, which means that the new tax rate is expected to bring in about the same amount of funding as the previous year.
According to Superintendent Sam Sanders this is the fourth year in a row that LaRue County Schools have taken the compensating rate or less.

LaRue County Fiscal Court concurred with Planning and Zoning’s approval of six tracts of land during its regular meeting  at the courthouse in Hodgenville Aug. 23.

The Taylor County Animal Shelter will get a new building this year, just not where it was originally planned.

The shelter received a $150,000 Department of Agriculture grant last year for a new building on land near the current shelter. The land was donated to the county by the city of Campbellsville. However, it was announced at last week's Taylor Fiscal Court meeting that the building would not be constructed on that land.

LaRue County Fiscal Court voted the compensatory rate for taxes for the 2011-12 year which means the county will be taking in the same amount of revenue from taxes as it did the prior year.
“Everybody’s going through some hard economic times now and I believe we can get by on the same amount as last year, so I recommend the compensatory rate,” Tommy Turner, LaRue County judge-executive, told magistrates meeting at the courthouse in Hodgenville Aug. 9.
The court approved a raise of up to 2 percent for full-time employees for the next year.
