  • County Clerk's Audit – year ending Dec. 31, 2011

     State Auditor Adam Edelen last week released the audit of the 2011 financial statement of LaRue County Clerk Linda Carter. State law requires the auditor to conduct annual audits of county clerks and sheriffs.

    The audit found that the clerk's financial statement presents fairly the revenues, expenditures, and excess fees of the LaRue County clerk in conformity with the regulatory basis of accounting.

  • County joins class action lawsuit

     LaRue County Fiscal Court has joined over 18 other Kentucky counties in a class action lawsuit against a Delaware mortgage bundling company.

    Magistrates meeting at the courthouse in Hodgenville June 12 took the action against Mortgage Electronic Registration System. The company's website described MERS as “an innovative process that simplifies the way mortgage ownership and servicing rights are originated, sold and tracked.”

    Tommy Turner, LaRue County judge-executive, said tracking of titles is the major problem with MERS.

  • FISCAL COURT: Ambulance service announces personnel changes

     LaRue County Fiscal Court, meeting May 23 at the courthouse in Hodgenville,  appointed Dana Sprowles and Renee Skaggs to four-year terms on the county library’s board of trustees.

    They also reappointed Bobby Garrison to the water district board.

  • ELECTION: Sims wins Democratic nod for state rep race

    Only 8.5 percent of registered voters in LaRue County turned out for Tuesday’s Primary Election.

    There were no local races which accounted for low voter turnout, officials said. One state race was determined.

    Former state rep. Dottie J. Sims of Horse Cave secured the Democratic nomination for the 19th District state representative by defeating Phinis Hundley of Hodgenville, 1,017 to 603.

    Sims won both Hart (582 to 238) and Edmonson (156 to 54) Counties but lost LaRue County, 311 to 279.

  • CITY COUNCIL: Road, Park projects announced

    Hodgenville City Council had first reading of the annual budget ordinance May 14.

    The budget includes $1.2 million in general fund revenues including $318,700 from occupational taxes, $273,750 in city taxes, $265,000 from insurance surtax and $36,925 miscellaneous.

    The budget for July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013 includes also $309,000 in carryover.

    Expenditures for general funds include $495,200 for police, $631,293 for capital outlay, $56,882 for fire department and $20,000 for Park and Recreation debt.
