  • Sheriff's office audited for year ending Dec. 31, 2011

     The Auditor of Public Accounts has completed the LaRue County Sheriff Bobby Shoffner's audit for the year ended Dec. 31, 2011.

    The audit found excess fees increased by $9,969 from the prior year, resulting in excess fees of $13,714 at year’s end. Revenues increased by $15,949 from the prior year and expenditures increased by $5,980.

    The audit found the Sheriff’s operating expenses exceeded the amount fixed by LaRue Fiscal Court.

  • National Park Service conducts scoping study for pest management

     The National Park Service is accepting public comments pertaining to development of the Cumberland Parks Forest Pest Management Plan Environmental Assessment. The scoping period began July 1 and extends through Aug. 1. Comments will be used to assist the parks in developing and evaluating feasible alternatives and analyzing the environmental consequences of each alternative.

  • State real property tax set at 12.2 cents per $100 of assessed value

    The Kentucky Department of Revenue has set the 2012 State Real Property Tax Rate at 12.2 cents per $100 of assessed value. 

    Kentucky Revised Statute 132.020 requires the Department of Revenue to set the real property rate no later than July 1 of each year. This rate is based on the revenue generated from the increase in taxable real property assessments from 2011 to 2012.

  • Special taxing districts under scrutiny

     State lawmakers heard about the State Auditor of Public Accounts’ efforts to examine special districts that levy taxes or fees in hopes of boosting the accountability of those entities during Thursday’s meeting of the Interim Joint Committee on Local Government.

  • Nature license plates re-issued

     The Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund is re-issuing three past nature license plates: the bobcat on a rhododendron branch, the Viceroy butterfly perched on a goldenrod stem and the cardinal landing on a Kentucky Coffeetree branch.

    These plates are now available for purchase.

  • Audit gives County Clerk's office a clean report

    State Auditor Adam Edelen last week released the audit of the 2011 financial statement of LaRue County Clerk Linda Carter. State law requires the auditor to conduct annual audits of county clerks and sheriffs.
    The audit found that the clerk’s financial statement presents fairly the revenues, expenditures, and excess fees of the LaRue County clerk in conformity with the regulatory basis of accounting.
